A friend of mine turned me on to a Wicked Warrior. The guy was forced to sell and was willing to give it up for someone to take over the payments on what he borrowed to finish it off.

I rode it over the weekend and a riding buddy wanted it to. I told him I was going to take over payments on it for a "go between" until I could decide exactly what I wanted or until some new models come out. He wanted this thing so bad that he was willing to put up good faith money for 1st dibs when I wanted to get rid of it. And boy O' boy, believe me, if you rode it once you would see why!!!

So we set up this little deal and I took over payments on Monday. After riding this quad 6 days, WOW!!!! What over-kill!!! I can say nothing else bad about it.

I won't set here and gloat all day about performance. NO NEED!! Problem is, every time I go to get on for a ride, I think...this quad is almost too nice to ride. Second, higher the octange the higher the performance. It won't just putt around 2 up with low octange.(likes the taste of race fuel) Third, it's shift x ??? just to keep RPM's up for keeping the engine smooth.

I love the performance and could live with the over kill of course. But, I just wander if I could get close to this performance level on a Scrambler 400 2x4 and still be able to enjoy the EASYRIDE once and a while when the wife wants to crawl on back.

So, all you guys with modded up 400's let me know how your quad does when you want to putt a little and take a look at these stats to guess if you could come close in performance.

THANX

Explain what "custom jetting" is.

Half of the "stats" you listed are nothing more than accessories. Still sounds like a nice Warrior, but I'd still take my Sport (and some of the other guys' around here) over it.

Duster
Sounds like you've got a real FLYIN' MACHINE there!! I just bought a 500 Mag, so can't give you any much info on the 400's.

As for A400L, take another look at the 'accessories', most of them are performance goodies, either to boost HP or improve handling! This is 1 hot litle Yamaha!!

Enjoy it Duster!!

JERRY,

I got to hand it to you. You seem to have much more overkill than me for sure!!!

I wasn't trying to start a pissing contest in here at all. I was just wondering if I could let this other guy have this bad *** Warrior and get a Scrambler 400 2x4 when I can pay cash.

I would like to get the same performance out of the 400 and still be able to take my wife on a putt around ride once and a while. Although my Warrior is a stellar performer, it lacks that easy riding nature. It doesn't run good at speeds that don't make the ol' lady **** her pants without racing gas=$$$ and I have to shift constantly to keep RPM's up. Know what I mean? My Warrior will probably be a go between quad, but I'll sure enjoy being a lunitic on it 'till I let it go.

My question for you is...can the 400 be modified to this level of performance and still be a practical easy rider at times? And if so, what to add and where to draw the line?

It's all in the clutching. You can use different primary springs to otain different engagements (lower for her, or higher for you). But if she's going to be on it for an extended period of time you might have to re-jet for better low-mid performance. All this can be accomplished on 92+ too.

I've actually found the reliability of my 400 improved drastically (compared to others') with the most basic mods, pipe, new carb, re-worked head, and Wiseco. Everything else has been gravy!

JERRY,

So you are saying your quad will run effectively on 92 Octange from the pump? I hope so because my wife really enjoys riding on back with me more and more. $3-4 a gallon for race fuel is too much for me. That's what it takes to make my quad run ok at slow speeds. By myself I can run pump gas.

I think I'd be happier with a bigger, more comfortable auto. I have always been a 2-stroke lover too. Good performance bottom to top, at an efficient building and operating cost is my idea of "having my cake and eating it too".

I don't know anything about the PVT. It seems to me that you could adjust it to do most anything. From my standpoint, it looks like the most versitle tranny available.

Is (high-low) engagement in reference to the throttle-point it engages or something else? Also, is there a light weight chassis available and if so what's the price?

THANX

HPD now has an aftermerket chassis available, in three stages. Pricing ranges from 5K to 12K.
