Need help with 325 trailboss engine
#1
I have a 2001 325 trailboss and the engine hesitates. It only seems to happen if you rapidly move the throttle from 1/3 to full. If you do this slowly it does not hesitate at all.
I checked for gas line kinks, cleaned the airfilter and made sure the choke was off. There is no air/fuel screw on the carb that I can find.
Have you ever had this problem and how do I fix it?
Thanks in advance.

Dan - I haven't had this kind of a problem on my bossy... a couple of thoughts; has this problem just started or has it been with your trailboss all along? Has your riding style changed to expose a problem that has been there all this time and is now showing itself?
If I was having this kind of problem I would try to move the clip on the jet needle down a notch which will open the main jet earlier to provide a richer mixture earlier with the same throttle position on a CV-style carb. That is move the clip closer to the tapered end of the jet needle by one notch. See if this makes the problem better or worse and you may have a clue as to the source of your problem - too lean or too rich.
Online parts detail for your carb here
I really don't know if this will help or not... it's just something I would try if it was mine - be careful about going leaner (moving the clip toward the top of the jet needle)... don't want to run it too hot for too long.

Thanks for the parts link. I couldn't find one online earlier and was just going through a dirtwheels mag looking at advertisements for on-line parts.
I noticed it about a month ago. I just thought I had some bad gasoline or a kink in a hose. I noticed it when I was trying to do some wheelies, it hesitates just enough that the front end will not come up very well when you give it the gas and pull on the bars.
I will try what you suggested.

I had pretty much the exact same problem.
Look for the vent hose on the carb body. Mine was clogged with a hunk of mud. Blew it out, and it ran fine. ($80.00 at the dealer and they didn't find it. I'll now do my work, thank you).

I had the same problem with my Warrior. I got it used and it was doing the same thing, I put a can of fuel system cleaner for cars in the next tank. By the end of the tank it had cleared out and never had the problem again. Must have been gum in the carb? It worked for me anyway.
