Default 600 Reserve gas ALERT

Being used to my Xplorer and it's gas consumption, I managed to run out on my new 600 (only a mile from home) I was used to going 10+ mi. on reserve but only got 4 before sucking air. Mabey the main gas tube was cut to short or mabey it's the nature of the machine? Just wanted to give you a heads up.

I managed to get 66mi. on the main and 4mi. on reserve. I am assuming 80mi. to the tank when it's broken in.(this was my first tank)

I was riding with one of my buddies who has a 500 HO 2001. We switched machines for about 10 miles. The 500 has an absolutley vibration free engine wereas the 600 has a small but rather annoying buzz in the handelbars. The 600's front tracked slightly better, had lighter steering and a better turning radius. It also has the new style in-line drum shifter with park, this thing is fantastic. The new style speedo is really nice and I found out you can put it in diagnostic mode where you can see rpm's, oil pressure and voltage.(pretty neat) While driving down a fire road we got the urge to see the difference in speed. We were going about 5mph and we floored them. Exactly the same to 30mph and then it was bye bye HO. I have been reading that several 700 owners are complaining of having to switch to low when things get slow and technical, the 600 must have a different clutch setup because it performed beautifully in high in the bad stuff and in low it's killer. From the limited saddle time that I have I rate this machine at a 9 out of 10.

Default 600 Reserve gas ALERT

Snowride,

Thanks for the heads up on the reserve since I am going to be picking up my 600 Twin before Christmas...already know where I am going to buy it but need to make sure they have the correct color in before putting in my order.

Good to hear something about the 600 since the 500's and 700's are very popular here. So what kind of price did you get on your 600 ?? Have you modified or added to it yet?? We spend lots of money to get them and even more on getting them the way we want them and then more money in insurance and security to keep them...what a world we live in ?? If you call, windshield, heated thumb and grips and reverse light, mods then I guess so. I am currently trying to figure out how to install a decent after market light in the pod. (they changed the design in 2002 and it will no longer take the H4 bulb) Price paid was $9100 Canadian.
