EFI Rumors Prevail
(November 7, 2002)
What's going to be the next big techno-thing to explode onto the ATV landscape? We think the introduction of an electronically fuel injected ATV is just around the corner.
There's no doubt the sophisticated electronic controls which the Honda Rubicon employs to manage its hydrostatic Hondamatic tranny are no less complicated than would be required to operate an EFI system. Clearly, the ATV business may be headed toward EFI soon.
With EFI now commonplace on motorcycles, snowmobiles, outboards and even some lawn and garden equipment, the technology to bring EFI to the ATV world is already available. In fact, Polaris' 600/700 twin engine already comes in a 780cc snowmobile variation with EFI.
Yep, we look for Polaris to intro the world's first EFI ATV - SOON
I know the C-dales are EFI, but what I think All-Terrain Mag is talking about , is a EFI Atv thats in the very popular utility line. We all know the C-dales are great, but only make up a very very small market today of people that own them.

Hey GE4x4. Cannondale already has the idea out on the market. A 440 efi (the Speed)cannondale will beat a 660 Raptor. They did this a while ago thats why they are so unique. So it is not a new idea!!! It would be great if Polaris could make an efi atv for sure.

I know the C-dale is EFI, but very few people know about them, there only for the high performance groupe. If EFI was put into a utility atv, I think it would spread like wild fire. Utility atv's are the largest sellers out there, and Polaris has the atv to make this happen. If they put EFI in there 600 or 700 sp, it would set a new standard in the atv market.

I see what your saying now.It needs to be mainstreem. Available on all atv's.utility and sport. I dont think we will see it anytime in the near future because it is so expensive to manufacture and the price of atv's will skyrocket. Thats why C-dales are so rare but very advanced.A 440 speed is almost $8000.WOW!!! I will stick with the trusty old carb setup.

I think Polaris can do this without much of a price hike. They made the engine in the Fronteir (spelling) and the price of it is less then the 700 at $7399. Artic Cat also has a EFI and there Price isn't bad. And for the most part, snowmobiles are more expensive then atvs. So if the Frontier can be made for $7399, they should be able to keep the price down on the 700. On the C-dale, yes the price is high, but I think it's more about the aluminum frame then the EFI.

I think fuel injection is close. Carburetion does not seem to be much of a problem right now. Most all ATV's run quite well and fuel injection does not always deliver more horse power, but it will deffinatly improve driveability fuel mileage.
