Trade it in on a Z400.
Just kidding.
That is what I did though. I had a modded 400 Scrambler and wanted a lighter better handling sport quad. I priced a steering stabilizer, bars, rims, tires, struts, and rear shock for better handling, but the cost was just too much.
The Z is a lot easier for me to handle at high speeds out on the trail.
Do a search on this and im sure there is info on it because I have seen several posts about doing just that.

That's an awful heavy machine your tryiing to lighten. It wont be real checp to do. The 2-cycles can shed more weight because of the oil injection setup, and they are lighter to start with. Start by replacing the wheels with aluminum. That will save almost 20lbs. Go with anything aluminum or chromemoly if you can, but that cost $$$$$. Good luck

I kind of agree with MegaCrash. You are very limited. The only thing I can suggest is like bubba said, Start with a nice set of Aluminum wheels(make sure your wheels are not already aluminum). Also, Polaris has aluminum running boards and an aluminum front bumper that came on various units.
(These parts look the same. You will need to do magnet test to make sure yours are not already aluminum)
My 99 400 4x4 has the aluminum parts, My 2000 400 4x4 does not, don't know how or why.
Is your scrambler a 4x4 or 4x2?
You need to know what you want out of it, it may be better for you to go to a different bike, Predator or Z400.

I`m not sure when or why but Polaris did switch from aluminium to steel parts on the newer Scrams. Wheels, front bumper and running boards possibly wheel hubs as well. I have a 98 and mine are all alu. a friend has an 02 and his are all steel. If your`s is newer it may be heavier to start with. This could be good and bad if those things are steel there`s a potential there to loose about 40 to 50 lbs but at a significant cost. If you have aluminum you won`t need to spend a lot but the potential weight loss drops to about 15 lbs.

The things I`ve done to mine are aluminum handle bars, rotor guard and sprocket guard disc.

You could do a battery/starter elimination kit if you didn`t mind pull starting all the time, maybe a 20 lb savings (you will need to make a cover to fit over the starter hole in the engine). There`s not a lot you can do without major money. HTH

Buy the predator or drop your motor into the HPD frame. Last I checked it was 9 grand though. It will surely be lighter!! Neither of these options are much help to you though. Sorry
