Scrambler brake question
#1
Can someone tell me how I can squeeze my hand brake and the fluid just comes out the top of my foot brake fluid reservoir? I thought they were 2 separate brake systems.
I'm unable to keep any pressure in my hand brake because it's just blowing out the foot brakes fluid reservoir. I even replaced the foot brake fluid reservoir thinking it just had a bad seal and it still happens with the new one. I don't think that foot brake reservoir is meant to handle the pressure built up by the hand brake system but it would have to if they are both connected like that. Does anyone know if that foot brake and hand brake are all part of the same line somwhow or do I maybe have something else wrong with my brakes maybe?

hello
i believe that you blew the seals in the rear caliper. i have been told that there is a seal in the caliper that seperates the the hand lever and the foot lever . this is not sold or serviced by polaris but i have been told to call because it isnt in thier cataloge but hpd makes a replacement seal kit . contact hpd or get a new caliper from polaris.. hope this helps

No. the brake lines weren't swapped, I've been riding on these brakes all summer. I think the problem was simply caused by the brake pads being completely gone. I suspected some type of bad seal as jmrpage mentioned so I pulled the rear brake caliper all the way off and lo & behold my brake pads are completely gone, just the metal backing plates are left. The rotor isn't grooved or anything though.
I put on a new set of the severe duty pads back in the spring so I didn't think there was any way they would have already worn out like that.
I just replaced the brake pads and bled the brakes and the leak from the foot brake reservoir appears to have stopped now. I don't fully undertsand this braking system though. I think I'm gonna take it easy on the brakes for awhile til I'm sure I really don't have a bad seal somewhere. Losing the brakes on a steep hill is kinda scary, I've had it happen before and I don't want to play chicken with a tree again.

Same exact thing happened to me. Fluid was coming out of the rear reservoir. I didn't know as much as I know now, so I got fed up and took it to a dealer. I could have just gotten the seal repair kit, but he had to order it and I didn't want to wait, so I just got a whole new caliper. It sounds to me that it is very likely that it's the seal in your rear caliper that has gone bad. If you are out riding and your brakes go, try holding the rear foot brake while holding the handlebar lever and the brakes should work. I found that out when I was like "oh sh**! NO BRAKES!"

You guys were right about the blown seal in the caliper. I thought the new brake pads fixed my problem but I was wrong. I was actually able to bleed the brakes from both rear bleeder screws by squeezing just the front hand brake. That's not the way it's supposed to work.
I'll be ordering new caliper seals from HPD tomorrow.
