Im having a great week!
If you read my other thread "How do I get to the plugs?" you'll know I had a problem w/ my 700 yesterday. Well, tonight I started working on that problem and after putting everythng back together it wont start!!!!!!!
Heres what I did:
took out each plug (filthy w/ carbon)
cleaned them w/ wire brush (didnt have new plugs tonight)
regapped them to spec (.035) cuz they were OFF big time
checked them for spark........got spark!
carefully screwed them back into place
checked both plug wires for damage......nada!
Someone had suggested I drain the float bowl via that lil screw just in case there was still water in there.
And that was it I didnt touch anythng else! ....And now it wont start!
NOTE: taking off the front cover I found a red/white striped wire sticking out of one of the main wiring looms. It looks like it was cut to me, problem here is, I cldnt find the other cut wire that might of been attached to it. Does ANYONE know if that wire is supposed to be loose like that?

Don't really know why it won't start. If you drained the float bowl you will have to give it full choke and crank for a while before the bowl fills again and it starts. When you say the gap was way off, is it possible you read it wrong and have now adjusted it way off. There are actually 2 wires that are not connected under the hood. the red/white is powered ignition, meant for hooking up accessories and there is also a purple which is meant for a backup light.

Thnx guys!
I guess its posssible the carb still needs to be replenished after emptying the float bowl but I did crank it Id say a good 10x.....each time till the battery symbol started blinking and nothing, not so much as it even turning over once for me. I tried cranking her over w/ and w/out the choke on AND w/ and w/out full throttle.
As for the gap, I didnt measure the first plug, I just regapped it to the Owners Manual setting of .035 BUT I did measure the second plug and it was a hair over .025. ???? Is the Owners Manual incorrect in their gap measurment??? It wldnt surprise me it doesnt look like Polaris took a whole lot of time on that Manual.
Im gonna go buy 2 NEW plugs today in hopes that the plugs are too foul w/ carbon and is the cause of it not cranking over.
Oh and TY for clearing up the loose wire issue, I didnt see the purple one Ill have to look harder before putting her back together. Why Polaris didnt tape/cap off that loose wire Ill never know! thats a short just waiting to happen!

Just curious. Doe's the purple wire have 12 volts or 5 volts like the rest of the speedometer wires?

Actually the purple wire has no volatge. It's a switched ground (grounds when you shift your quad into reverse) In other words if you hook up a backup light with one side to 12v and the other side to the purple, the light will come on when you put it in reverse.

Just to elaborate a little on what Snowride said, he’s right, red w/ white stripe is always a hot lead that goes on/off with the ignition. Or at least it has been on all the Polari I’ve owned. The “loose” end is useful for accessories. Take a look at your cig lighter plug in your headlight pod. The hot wire that powers it is red/white. I’ve never seen that loose end bare from the factory. It’s a female spade with a plastic shield.

Have you checked to see if you have spark or not. The 700's have had few stator problems. This sounds like it may be one of them. Just put a plug in the cap and crank it over to check for spark. If it does spark then it is most likley a fuel problem.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Thnx for the help guys!
My friend actually found the problem, we found a wire had pulled out of a butt connector located in a 5-6 wire wiring loom right above the starter, so while I was there I thought I wld check the others and one other wire pulled out w/ the slightest tug. That was it! Once I crimped on new connectors it fired right up and revved normally. Sooo anyone experiencing any of the symptoms above definitely check out that wire harness/loom.
As for the loose red/wh striped wire......the ONLY wire I saw under the front hood w/ a covered spade connector actually had THREE red/whi striped wires attached to it(is that what you guys are talking about???). The wire I found has NO connector, who knows it may have been snipped off by the previous owner.
