Default Finally got a Predator!

I wish I could go to Sand Mt. this weekend. I would love to see how it does against the Raptor.

Good luck and get some video of the race. (After you break-in your engine.)

The dealer in Fallon finally has a sport quad. I bet he sells a few Predator's there.

Congratulations on the purchase.

I just got back from a 27-minute ride, which completes the "one hour" break-in according to the manual. My four oil filters just arrived too, so I will be changing the oil in about a half hour and then I'll go out for a two hour ride, then come back for another hour-long cooldown. That should complete the "crucial" three hour break-in according to the manual.

After that, I'll ride around gently for the rest of the day, and then spend tomorrow afternoon on knobbies at Sand Mountain. Come Saturday morning, the paddles go on and all bets are off.

Tell 'em you're sick... you, uh, hey I know, you got food poisioning from a cruise ship. Yeah that's it!

Meanwhlie, my oil is changed and I'm headed back out... since I didn't have any genuine Polaris synthetic oil (yeah like I'd buy it anyway) I put my usual Castrol Act-Evo synthetic in. Oil change was just as easy as on the 400EX. And the stuff that came out was green, just like the original stuff in my Arctic Cat.

snar: What weight oil does the Predator use? That synthetic you're using, is it a 100% synthetic? I know you're suppossed to be fully broken in before going synthetic at all.....

Oh, for anyone that has a predator so far, regarding the stock muffler.... You guys are all telling me how restrictive it is and all, yet the bike feels fast.... Now, knowing that, will the bike be a disapointment without getting a muffler asap? I won't have any dinero for a while to pick up a muffler....so I just want to make sure this thing still kicks without the thought of bolting up a muffler immediately.

For a stock muffler, how good does it sound? Like an XR, or YZ426?

Thanks....

The owners manual says to use only Polaris Synthetic oil; nothing else. So I used the Castrol stuff. It's the only synthetic-type oil I know of for ATVs and seems to be good stuff. I use 10W30 in everything.

The muffler is too quiet. The thing sounds like a muffled stock Grizzly and when accelerating you hear too much engine noise and not enough exhaust noise. A pipe will help everything. Even with the stock muffler it's darn fast.

Now at 2.5 hours on it... if I can get another 2 to 3 on it today, I'll be happy... but I had to come home to gas up and have some lunch.

snar: Dude! Are you riding your bike from your house or something? Sounds like you open the garage, start her up and then leave?!

Wow, they actually tell you to use full synthetic from the get-go? GeeWhiz! I've heard that when breaking in ANY type of engine, conventional is always used first and foremost, then synthetic can be substituted if desired.... I guess do what the book says .... 10-30, got it...thx

I know what you mean about hearing more engine noise than exhaust noise. Means get a muffler, haha. But heck, glad it's still fast out of the box..... just means I'll wait about 6-7 months for a shootout of all the aftermarket exhaust systems for it, then get the best one...

Have fun on that bad boy!

Jump it yet? If so, how she fly??

Dbeck,
I noticed the same weld splatter,

Srarf, Thanks for the great riding reports. They seem to be impressing their owners so far!

Yep, I ride right from my house... exactly like you said. The third bay of my garage is separated from the other two so it holds the quads. Open the door, pull it out, and off I go. A half mile later I'm on the dirt and there are tons of trails around here to ride. 'Course I've been on about 75% of 'em so far (of the close ones). But then if I pop it on the trailer and head north, there are even more! That's what I love about this area.

I'm done for the day... I'm beat (believe it or not). Got a total of three hours on it and the first oil change done, I think it's ready for sand tomorrow. I'll get out of here darn early since daylight is scarce these days.

No jumps yet, though I did catch air a couple of times (not quite intentionally). I'll be trying out jumps at the dunes for sure.... videos of it also.
