Default Scrambler 500

I am looking to possibly get a used Srambler 500. Is there any model years that have had any problems that I should stay away from? Since the debut of the Scrambler 500 has it been trouble free? What major changes have been made to the Scrambler 500? Is there a big difference between the 500 and the 500 H.O.?

For Starters.

I would not buy any used Scrambler Prior to a 1998 model.
Prior to 1998 they did not have the concentric Drive system.
4x4 models had a Chain driven front axle vs shaft.
The Non concentric drive and Front chain drive was well known to be problematic.
So from there here are the updates:
2000 models got 2" more rear suspension travel and a 2 stage rear spring (Nice and soft).Late 2000 models also received updated HEIM style tie rod ends. (Previous Ball & Socket units are known to wear out fast.
2001 models got an updated braking package. (All steel braided lines, Drilled/slotted rotors, Better Reservoir assembly) Also Late 2001 models got and updated steering post, and lower support bearing. (Previous design had a riveted bushing that usually had play straight from the factory.)
2002 models got a life time belt warranty.
2003 models got a spliceless belt and also I believe polaris eliminated some of the grease fitting with LUBE FOR LIFE units.
As for the difference between the standard 500 and the HO, I do not know the specifics, I know the H.O. has a better Cam, and also puts out more HP.
