I have a 97 scrambler 400 4x4. My oil light just started coming on and I am wondering what the general concensus is on 2 stroke oil. Is the Polaris oil the overwhelming favorite? RedLine?

stay with polaris, get the premium gold systhethic wich is great enough
and better for your engine (no build-up and deposit).
most full synthectic oil are for "race" applications and are better than you need it as well for normal trail riding.

Dont forget, though, if you go to the synthetic oil you have to flush the oil tank out before going to the other. I run the regular blue in everything, even my race bike premixed. Bubba

I'll second that....plain old Polaris blue, non-synthetic. You can normally even buy it in bulk from your dealer.

Kawasaki KDX owner here.

I always thought synthetic and the regular oil was compatible. What happens then?

I would have thought the small amount left in the tank would dilute into the new mixture.

Same reason that you cannot take a paraffin based regular car oil and mix it with synthetic. It mixes like gas and water, not good. Bubba

Huh, I'm totally confused now.

I mix my own batch of Chet oil all the time. Its cheaper to mix your own than purchase what the manufactures call semi synthetic.

I have been doing this for years. It says on all the bottles of synthetic that it is fully compatible with dino oil.

Help Chet to know if he is making snake oil or is Chet oil the best oil in the world!!!!!!!

Same as the others, stay with the Polaris brand, for the amount you'll use any extra cost is negligible. We changed over to the Premium Synthetic and just added it straight to the tank of convential oil. That was in '93 and my friend now has the bike and it's running as good as ever.

Well, If I am wrong so be it. I dont know it all and definitely wont act like I do. I have been a mechanic for 15 years and the "hear say" has always been do not mix synthetic with non synthetic. I have never been shown otherwise, so I have always taken it to heart. If you were going to take the time to mix it, why bother when the fully synthetic is so "superior"? I have wondered about the blended oils. Sorry for any incorrect info. I would like to know more, though. Thank you,Bubba
