picking up predator Sat, lots of questions!
#1
Picking up the Predator finally this Saturday at the dealership, and had some questions about a few things….
1: What official recalls have been announced by Polaris regarding the predator?
2: Are the Honda EX oil filters IDENTICAL (not close to) to the predator one?
3: Does anyone know how many hours until the first valve adjustment? (Service manual won’t be in yet)
4: Is there anything special to installing the remote Fox reservoirs? I’m picking those up too on Sat.
5: If you bought an extended warranty, how much did you pay for it and for what duration?
6: When will the new header pipe be available from WB/Polaris? And how much $$?
7: Anything special with the nerf bar install?
8: Do extra tuning discs come with the WB slip on silencer?
9: Under the extended warranty plan, honestly what exactly DOESN’T it cover??
10: Anything I'm missing?
I’m anxious to finally ride this thing. I will definitely post a full report as soon as possible.
Appreciate the help guys!

I do know a little about the extended warrenty, I don't know if it varies from dealer to dealer or not, but I can get 1,2,3 or 4 years. And he told me the 4 year would be around $350-400. He wasn't sure, the head guy wasn't in. But from the past extended warrentys that was the price.

Yeah, that question was posed to find out if it varies from dealer to dealer. I have a feeling we got jipped possibly. So I'm trying to figure out other options to possibly cancel it and see if I can't purchase the extended elsewhere. The dealer said another company handles the warranties for the predators, and the dealer does not negotiate pricing for it. Seemed kind of strange. Thanks for the info......
Does everyone get the same warranty co? I hate this stuff.
Put it this way, we got a 5 year 100k warranty cheaper on our 00 Maxima than my 3 year predator one. Get the jist?

1. Recalls just the front brake bolts.
2. The 400ex and Predator filter are the same. In the owner's manual it says you sould replace the o-ring and the two sealing washer's also. They don't come included with the Predator filter
You can get away with every other time if your careful and keep an eye on them for leaks.
Polaris Service Manual says change oil after first hour and then every 10hrs.
3. Service manual doesn't say either! It just says to inspect ignition timing every 100hrs
It does give all the specs for the valves and cams and the how to's, shimming doesn't look as nice and easy and it isn't.
4. You need to recharge them, not a do'r yourself.
5. N/A
6. I'm Canadain *L* No know date yet here.
7. Easy as pie but you need a rivit gun.
8. Don't have mine yet.
9. Racing voids all warranty.
10. Just go over it and check bolts and hose clamps it can't hurt.
Enjoy your new ride.

Thanks for the info guys.
The recharging of the front rezzy's, does a dealer do this, or do I need to take it to a suspension place?
The list price on the header pipe is steep, no? Ouchy.
Wonder when the valves need to be done? Hmm. The dealer said they do all routine work, and all. Just wanted to know when it needs to go there.
Does the extended warranty tie you to have the work done at the same dealership you bought it through?
My dad mentioned that the warranty we purchased cannot be cancelled. I just know we're getting ripped on that price. If $400-$500 is the going rate for 4 years, I was certainly screwed over. Dammit! Wonder if pricing varies from state to state- dealership to dealership.... ?
Either way, I'm going to love this bike... just need to get the little details out of the way....

The extended warrenty is a Manufacturer Extended Warrenty, which means any authorized Polaris Dealer/Mechanic can do the work. So if you are not happy with the work that is done from one place, try another. I'm not sure what you paid for it, but around $100 a year isn't bad, mainly with a first time quad. Any problems that arise, that isn't from normal wear and tear will be covered. If you've ever blown a motor or gernaded a tranny, $400 bucks might cover the parts!! So yes, it's worth it. Tires, break pads, chains, sprockets (unless it breaks teeth right off the bat) and stuff like that isn't covered. Also, it's not insurance, so if you roll it and break stuff, that's out of your pocket.
About the valves, I don't believe that they need the "after 5 hours" adjustment like the Honda. I know that my buddy was told that his Raptor didn't need any adjustments unless there started to be a problem. I've heard the same thing about the Predator.
The bars arn't very strong, typical of stockers. Most people go to aftermarkets right away, so I think that's why dealers put cheesy ones on. Hondas are really bad, light roll and they bend, but your plastic diesn't even get the white stress marks on it!!
Good luck and have fun!!

Prox: Appreciate the advice... . will get some bars asap. I have NO issue with $400 bucks for a warranty, but we paid WAY WAY above that price (I'm too embarrassed to even mention). This is why I'm concerned. My dad is the one you owns it and paid for it. He's just letting me have it here in Tucson, so more or less it's mine to use as I please. However, I'm just trying to examine the price he paid for the warranty, and make sure he didn't get screwed, but it looks possible he did.
I don't know if it's the dealer, or the extended warranty co who's overcharging, but I'm trying to see if I can't do something about it before I pick it up this Sat. According to my Dad, the sale was "final", but if I can show the dealer their price on the warranty is outrageous, something might be able to be done.
Thanks for hearing me out.....

Good luck on it. Dealer might cut you a deal, and if not, see if he will throw in some nurf bars or something, to off set the cost a little bit. What was the total out the door price your dad paid?
