oil for predator break in
#3
The Polaris stuff is a synthetic based oil I believe. It's fine to run that once broke in, but not initially. I don't care if Polaris says to run it from the start or not.... I believe conventional oils must be used during break in, in any engine app before converting to a synthetic type.

Geez ... How do you really feel about it
And you don't even own a Pred yet! Your just a wannabe Pred owner:
Unlike the seasoned ( 2 days now ) Predator Owner I am
Seriously do you think it makes that much difference?
If you read the manual it states that you will go straight to He** if you run anything other than P-4
I'm gonna go by the book but interested to hear your rationelle on that.....
On a different note .... Were is the tool kit with this thing??
Mine didn't come with one and I assume they didn't ship them with one...What gives?
Every ATV I've ever bought has had a tool kit. Maybe this things so reliable they figure you don't need it

Tres: HaHa. Yes, I have some strong opinions all right! It's just an understood fact when it comes to engines, you break them in with conventional, and run them with synthetic if that floats your boat once broke in. Reason being, from my limited second hand knowledge, the rings neat to seat properly, the metal needs a chance to bond itself to the other metals and imperfections in the metals need to take proper shape around the engine's dynamics... (sounds like some BS, haha). Basically, piston rings to the cylinder wall....etc etc... with Synthetic, it never really gets a good chance to..... here is some info from one or two sites I found in a few minutes...
It's about an aircraft engine, but piston type
He Speaks about the conventional and synthetic type in the middle part...
Interesting since it applies to what I'm doing, this one is about cars/trucks...
Very nice pics of issues, strong opinions, SAYS DRAIN THE OIL IF SYNTHETIC CAME FROM FACTORY
Mind you, these are just some quick links I found to support my thoughts. For the record, I've never heard, nor read anywhere that synthetic oil should be used during break in, only the opposite.
That's why I can't stand the thought of Polaris telling you that you have to run it even during break in from the get go. That's bull! I won't believe that until someone can prove me otherwise that it's best to do that.
2 days now, haha.....yeah, you are a true Predator owner all right! , just like me....wait I don't even have it! Your bike should have the tool kit. The parts manual for the predator (.pdf) on Polaris' site has the tool kit mentioned and displays the tools contained therein....
Scoot: Got the filters and o-rings today, $28 out the door for 3 of each....about what I thought I might pay.....

Hey PolPredatator your right it was under the seat Duh..
Thanks for saving me from looking like an A$$ , I was all set to
call the dealer and read em the riot act......
03: Thats some pretty compelling arguments.... So your gonna drain the synthetic oil , change the filter before you start your breakin? Going with that assumption I would guess you plan on using something like Valvoline 10-40? Run a tank of gas thru working the engine fairly hard in intervals with 15 minute cool downs in between?
Then drain the 10-40 change the filter again... and refill with PS-4 is that about right?
Hmmm sounds interesting anyone else have any opinions on this?
I plan on breaking the thing in this weekend so I'm really interested to hear any and all viewpoints.
But I must admit the reasons you have given and the supporting links seem plausible.

Danm now you really got me thinkin about this....
Check this out.... I've already installed the White Bros. pipe
which the dealer says I don't need to rejet for....
But Superbikes says that I need to go bigger on the main (160)
and drop the clip on the needle one notch.
Now lets say Superbikes is right.... but, I don't rejet that means I'm doing my break-in in a lean condition
which can't be good .....ah rats now I'm really worried and will have to drink massive amounts
of beer to get to sleep ....
