How true to those prices to people tend to be..

Suggested Retail 3480.

That seems incredibly HIGH..

I have a chance to pick up one for 1800, it needs some work. Nothing serious.
Starter needs to be taken apart, and possible brush kit, bearing (~50)
New Stearing Bushing ~15
New Frong Tires ~30ish/tire

Brand new front tires, still has 135psi compression.
Pull starts after sitting for over a month in under a full pull.

Thanks for the info.. If they are pretty true to pricing. I could come out 1k ahead on this deal on a tradein or more on an outright sale.

Keep in mind that is suggested retail. When dealing with ATV's, there can be a huge difference in quality of what your buying. I bought a 99 Sport stocker for $1700.00. I had to split the cases and replace the crank and bearings, bore it.020,rplace tie rod ends, clutches, swingarm bushings, wheel bearings, etc. It was rode hard and not maintained good. But I do all my own work so the most expensive part (labor) is free. It is a very good bike now for around $2500. Alot cheaper than $3500 for a used one, but most of the time I will still pay more for something that has been well maintained to save the trouble. Bubba

Yeah, I intended to do all the work on my own.

I can do damn near everything but split the crank and bore it out.
I have givin it a light once over, the rear swing arm and bushings appear nice and firm.
Chain and sprockets apear to have no wear.
Brand new battery, the starter clicks (prob stuck brushes)
Front tires are wore, and one is a bit low.

I havent had it lifted up on a hoist to examine the front end, I do definatly know it needs steering bushings.

It was ridden moderatly, the engine appears to be very firm yet, and the compression tester tested at 135psi, factory is 140.
I want to ride it for about 10 min before i make up my mind

The only thing im hesitant on is that I wanted at 500 4x4. I was hoping this project would get me a chance to gain for a bit of tlc.

Get yourself a good service manual and you can split the cases. Without having to deal with the transmission gears in the same case makes it sooooo easy. Once you get the motor on a table and take the cylinder and pull start cover off, there is very little left. When putting crank bearings in, I put the bearings in the freezer the night before, then heat the case halves on my kerosene heater for a couple of minutes. Take the frozen bearings out and just drop them right in. If you need help, just e-mail me. Dont pay for someone else to do it for you. Buy a good Polaris OEM manual. It will cost you about $50-$75, but you will save more money than that doing it yourself.Bubba

I've found that here is fairly accurate in value pricing.
