Tie Rod Ends
#1
Ive read a lot of posts on this topic but havent gotten the answer Im looking for
My 98 scrambler and the boy's 97 tb both need ends at a cost of about $300.00
(also need to replace the steering shaft bushing from what Ive read) another $60.00
I am looking for a way around this $300.00 thing
I see the 02 scram uses an outer rod end without the stud!( looking at partsland)
$19.99 per joint compared to $34.99 which I thought was considerable higher last I looked
My ??
what size hole is in the joint where it mount to the strut?
I hate the thought of drilling on the strut the accept a 1/2" stud which is industry std for a
joint with a 1/2" rod size
Also if anyone has any specific numbers of aftermarket parts that would work Id be intrested
Thanks for your time,Tom

Tom, I bought 2 pair of rod ends off of E-bay. The girl's ID was dearamyjo I believe. She relists them all the time with a buy it now of 44.95. They were the EPI new style Scrambler ends and were 2 in a package. That would only put you at $100 for 2 pair. Call Rick Ritter and get the bushings from him. They make the updated lower aluminum bushing with the bronze inset that you wont have to change again. They are $30 each. The holes in the strut tower are a 11 or 12mm if memory serves me right.Bubba

Yes, I'm sorry, they were the outers. Just like my wife's 01 Scrambler and they are very durable. EPI (erlandsonperformance.com) sells the OEM style upper and lower together for about $35 i think. Check it out. hope this helps,Bubba

I have also purchased the EBAY units.
They are made by EPI. The auction is for 2 Outers but I belive if you asked they will give you witch ever you want. Auction is for same part #s as below.
Just mention you want 2 WE311054 outers or 2 WE311034 inners up on winning the aution.
You can buy them straight from EPI also::::::
http://www.erlandsonperformance.com/
Outers:::::
Code: WE311054
Price: $21.95 ea
Inners::::::
Code: WE311034
Price: $21.95 ea
You will Notice in the EPI catalog that these part # are for 02 models. The difference is the older kits come with hardware (Bolts Washers, Nuts).
Just go to the Hardware store and buy the hardware.
As for the lower support you can get the factory one from EPI also
Code: WE370005
Price:$29.95
I would sugest like bubba297 said, get one of the aftermarket units:
http://www.hpd-inc.com/Index.html $29.95
http://www.hotseatperformance.com/ $39.95
http://rittercycle.com/polaris.htm $35.00
They are all for the most part Identical, so I would go withthe HPD unit, unless you plan to buy other Items from someone else. I believe the factory Rivits are the true problem, not the bushing itself.
