ITS MOD TIME!!!

I am finally going to order my mods for the scrammy next week. I am going with the HPD PowerMaxx pipe and silencer. Anyone have one of these? How do you like it?. How well does the nickel plating hold up? How well did it go together and how loud is it? I am ordering my stuff through Rick Ritter. Should I go with the HPD aggressive clutch kit or would it be better and cheaper to have Rick put one together for me? Is there a difference between the two? Also, should I get HPD superduty buttons? I heard that clutch kits eat up the stock buttons. I cant afford the roller secondary right now. Will Rick give me the correct jetting for my application. If so, do I need to give him any information? Sorry for all of the questions. I guess that Rick will answer most of them, but I just wanted to get an idea of what to get and also get your opinions or suggestions on the products. Thanks

I have HPD everything and after waisting money on other brands HPD has been by far the best. If you get a HPD pipe then get the clutch kit to match. The agressive clutch kit is awsome. Im not to familliar with how the 500 performs with the mods. All i can tell you that the 2 strokes respond real well with the HPD stuff. Rick really knows what he is doing. He will not steer you wrong. I have been happy with him s far.

Do you have the nickel plateing on the pipe? If so how well does it hold up? Do you think that I need the superduty buttons? What kind of info do I need to give Rick about jetting? Thanks

Well BigBad, I guess it's just you and me. Thanks for your imput 2manytoys.
Right now I'm on the fence on what I want to do with my quad. I think I'm just going to sell it and get a sport quad instead of putting money into the Scrambler. I just get the feeling that I would be wasting my money trying to make the Scrambler faster, when I could just go out and get a whole new quad that is already faster and end up costing me less in the long run.
I have no clue what to do. What do you think?

I do have the nickle plating and so far it holds up very well. Just the typical blueing at the head. I have been running the stock buttons and have had no problems. They really start to wear when you put alot of hp to them.
Offrdr15,
I dont know how much faster you want to go but HPD has a powermaxx exhaust that will increase performance pretty well. With the clutch kit it will put more hp to the wheels. It would not cost too much to get more hp out of the 500. What other choice would you have to buy? I have seen the 500,s do about 72mph. Thats pretty fast for a 4x4 sport machine. You should not be that far from that now. The mods will make it alot quicker with some added top end.

If you don't need 4x4,and like the feel of a smaller, lighter, manual shift atv, get something else.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY TRYING TO MAKE YOUR SCRAMBLER 4x4 SOMETHING IT IS NOT.
As for the mods, I do not own a 500, so I can not comment on what works. I am sure Rick will set you up. Tell him what you want and he will put it together for you.
I can say this, My buddy put a White Brothers E series silencer on his 500 4x2 and it made a nice difference in power, but It is kind of loud on the trail, almost a little irritating. I believe if Noice is a big factor for you, and it should be, anything you do to the exhaust will increase how loud your machine is. Sound is starting to to inforced hear in Michigan and many other states. You can't even get in to Silver Lake Sand Dunes unless you are under 99db and spark arrested.

Big Bad,
I have a 98SCR500, I have had an HPD nickel pipe and aggressive clutch kit in it since I bought it new. The new muffler from HPD is different so I can't comment on the new design. I have an older style muffler and it sounds very deep almost Harleyish, but not overly loud at all. The performance from these mods along with a K&N filter is quite substantial over stock. The acceleration from bottom to top is great. When compared to my Kawi650, the SCR500 will beet it out of the hole and take a good 2-length lead, but it will get passed eventually on the top-mid to the top-end, and will eventually loose out to the Kawi650 in a 250-300yard drag by a bike bike1/2 nothing major. Through the trails is you will love the mods the quick acceleration is what make ridding it a blast. This is what you will get with the kit. Main jets are included along with detailed instructions on how to set the needle jet (3rd clip if i remember correctly). I changed the stock buttons twice since 98 with over 4500mi, but since your taking the secondary apart you can change the buttons if it makes you feel better. Also I put the 700 belt on back in October, this is a great mod the belt really grabs, so much so even after 200-300 mi it will slow the bike down very quickly when off the gas. Hope this helps
