REV LIMITER

Yes it is an agressive kit. And your right it is a red spring. Just like the EPI red but much larger. I went from the 58gr that came with kit , then went and used the 55 gr. It started after the pipe and clutch kit. Wouldnt the brown spring have a higher engagement? I now have the bottom end lag and dont have my full rpm,s.

My 99 had always had a lag except when it was stock. When I started adding
mods the lag showed up. Even when I installed my Reed conversion I had a
lad. I did change my low speed jet and now it has almost disappeared.

As long as the clutch is working properly, the actual set up should be OK. The brown spring is lower than the red. You don't want to go down in spring tension to get rid of a "lag". I myself, am running the Polaris RED with 55g weights. Their is a complete list of everything else I've done to my quad on "My Page".
i don't think I'd be looking at your clutching for your answer to this lag.

I kinda knew in my head that it was not the clutching because the lag is not a clutch lag but a motor lag. There is like a dead spot off idle. It seems that the pipe changed something and I tried the main jet. Nothing has worked. I do think that my rpm,s has to do with the clutch. What about changing the primary jet? There is a 40 plot jet. Should I maybe go bigger? I am not to concerned about the top rpm,s. I have a top speed of 66mph. I have not checked the top speed or rpm,s since I had the cylinder ported. I just want to figure out the lag problem.

Well if the lag is just off idle it is not your mainjet but could be the lowspeed jet or the needle setting
I did not know lag was the problem I thought you were just losing top end RPM.......Sorry I do not know alot about 2 strokes but lag off Idle is usally a carb problem

I think the larger 34m roundslide could be hindering the low speed signal coming through the carb. Being the 250 is a little lacking right off the bottom end and the trail pipe helps cut a little off also, the larger roundslide carb doesnt help. Now this is all right off the bottom. Like he says once he gets it going it really rocks. A higher engagement spring with the same shift out or slightly higher to get his few more rpms I think will do wanders. 2manytoys, look for a 34 or 35mm flatslide carb if you can. The response is unbelievable in comparison to a roundslide. Also is your head modded in any way? More compression will bring around the bottom end too. Bubba

The head is not moded yet! And it started before the 34mm carb install. The engagement is already high, Shift out is quick but still 300rpm,s short. After tha lag it really kicks a$$. It pulls real hard. But the lag prevents me from bringing the wheels up better and to launch I have to hold break and rev it till the lag is gone.

At what rpms does it start to move? Another thing that I just thought of: I was racing one day with a fried belt and it had a bad bog or lag in it that would go away once the rpms came up some. The belt was not slipping like it was supposed to. It took another belt to fix it. If you have been running the same belt for awhile, take it off and look at the sides. If they have the charred rough appearance, I would bet anything that is the problem. The sides should be smooth and you might want to clean the sheaves real good, blow everything off, and stick another belt on it. I couldnt believe it when I found out that was the problem. I put it on my wifes wheeler and ran it for a few weeks and it was fine then. I am just pretty hard on belts.

It is probably in the carb but don't be surprised if you never completely get rid of it. I still have a small lag too.
As for the flat slide carbs, I run one but man are they hard to get dialed in. I believe that the piston port motors make it this way.

Personally, to save some ching, I'd get a Thunder Products UFO and still keep the flatslide. Also, for the top end, this isn't a suggestion other than what already suggested, but replace your stock plug-wire end. You can get a non-resistor wire end from a small engine shop, or contact HPD, they sell them in da famous ziploc bags.
