Default SP 700 Noise

I have about 10 hours on my 700 and after riding yesterday my friend who also has a 2002 700 said mine was making a knocking noise. It seems to be on the right hand side. I've read about some saying its the water pump, but it sounds more then a ticking sound. Plus the starter engages about half the time now, that just started yesterday. The the seat developed a crack in the vinyl by the fuel tank, and the belt slipped one time.

Let me tell, this was the first time I took this thing in the woods riding on primarily on flat curvy trails and shallow 6" creek beds. The dealer isn't going to like me on Monday moring.

Give 'em hell and get that thing straightened out. No excuse for that much going wrong after ten hours. As for the seat, be careful when putting the seat back on after you have taken it off. I managed to put a cut in my 400's seat near the gas tank because it was hooking the plastic as I was sliding it into place...didn't realize it until it was too late.

Hi,

Check the exhaust Aluminum cover. The screws get loose easy and makes lots of noise. Not big deal.

I dropped the SP700 off at the dealer and just told him every thing was wrong and to have it fixed. But don't plan on keeping it forever because I would like to ride. The service guy it heard the wierd engine noise and said that was louder then normal and that they should be able to quiet that up.

We will see.

The Dealer called me and said the noise was caused by the idle set to low. I did have some trouble getting it to idle when getting it out to play.

The dealership ordered a new starter bendix, and a new seat. And they are also installing a new belt.

We arre now waiting on the starter bendix to arrive sometime next week.

just a dumb question,
if his knock is when the atv is running, why is it a faulty starter drive?
is the starter not disengaging?

I have had people tell me the noise is the water pump, and some say it is the starter. I guess I will know after they replace the starter. It does sound louder on the right side.
