Default Stock air box question

Hi everyone,

I was into my stock airbox for the first time today, for general clean up and exam, and maybe a decision on a flat panel K&N vs. a round slip-on style RU-1770. I feel pretty silly asking this, but I've never seen it before and can't find it in the manual anywhere.

The crankcase vent hose enters the airbox in the lower right front., into a small rectangular inner box. It breathes through a sponge type small slip-in filter. My question is this....

What's the talcum like orangish powder in the bottom of the breather box area? It appears to be clean, feels almost silica based...It does not appear to be anything I sucked into the system...

Any Ideas???

Thanks...

JJ
