Predator Seat/Airbox Problem
#11
Hey all,
I just looked at my airbox mounting brackets again, and it seem that this may be fixed by just fabbing up some slightly longer brackets to drop the box a slight bit lower in the frame. This will cause the breather tube to be squashed a bit, but it appears as though it may flex more and not rub through as easily..or maybe Polaris will make a slightly thinner breather tube...
I agree, we definately should not make this a big deal like a recall, but whatever fix Polaris comes up with they should cover the costs...a-la-warranty....

You would have to becareful lowering the airbox cause if it's to low when your rear suspension is fully compressed your swingarm will hit the air box. So, slight is the key word here if you decide to lower it.

I don't think this is a real big deal as long as you catch it before it gets too far through. I will be talking with my dealer today to see what he thinks Polaris might want to do, but after that I can almost guarantee that I will be grinding the hook off. Unfortunately rearranging the tool kit doesn't help, since the wear is definitely from the hook. Same shape of groove, also the hook is worn. No more tool kit under the seat I guess. Doubt it will be an issue if something breaks, the kit is so skimpy knowing my luck I would need everything I didn't have with anyway.

Just got back from my polaris dealer about this seat/airbox problem. Mine was almost worn through the airbox from the hook!! I took my seat and airbox lid in for proof. My dealer called polaris about this and I'm now getting a new seat and an airbox cover because of the problem. I removed my tool kit first time I rode it so it doesn't have anything to do with the tool kit itself. Sweet deal though, I now have a spare airbox lid and a new seat.

I too have contacted my dealer, and have referenced this forum and posts about the seat issue......
Hey PredatorMan, when you get your new replacement seat and airbox lid in, compare it to the origional unit. I'm curious to see if they've improved upon the origional design with its errors or faults.
My new brake lever (Rev D) is different in sweep (back further to the grip) than the stock origional (Rew C) version, so I assume that Polaris may have rev'd and revised the seat hook or airbox lid too.
Keep us informed PredMan!

Denny, nice site man. Unless I looked through your site too fast, I didnt see any close up shots of your air box mods on your Predator. If you dont have any pics posted of the air box mods, GET SOME!!
Thanks a million for the heads up. Ill take my seat off in the morning and check it.
