The red temperature light came on the other day on my 98' sportsman for the first time. My dealer said
over the phone that if it overheats it would boil some antifreeze out but mine did not.The fan came on
and continued to run until the red light went out.He said it could be the temp sending unit.Has anyone out there had this problem and how hard is this sending unit to replace.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced the sending unit on my 95 Sportsman, it screws into the top of the radiator and the wire plugs into the fuse box on one end and the wiring that goes to the fan on the other end. Take your time and look it over carefully before you start to make sure you run the wires the same way. Mine had one place that was hard to run the wire but I threaded the wire through with a plastic wire tie that was about 12" long. That was the trickiest part of it. Just take your time, trace the wires and put them back the same way. Mine works fine.
