wow that ole polaris only had 60psi of compression i guess my finger wasn't the best way to check hehe. after i found out it had that lil of compress i tore it back down to find both my rings were broke just befor the spacer in the piston. guess i didn't put them in right? what is the right way to put rings in? our shop teacher at school told us once but i wouldn't take anything he says and use it i'm gonna try to find out what bore my cylinder is i think its .20 over stock so i can get new rings. any help on this would be great! thanks u've helped me find my problem

Usually the piston will have a stamped number on them to tell you what size they are. The rings are kinda tricky to put in. There are 2 pins in the grooves of where the rings line up at. The rings also have a tapered side and a flat side to them. Make sure the tapered side is up. The openings of the rings are lined up with the pins and everything should slide right in. See I figured that the rings were cracked. They are very easy to crack if not put in exactly how they are supposed to go.

300s are a little on the noisy side. But did you check the piston for too much clearance it could have piston slap. You can tell also by takeing the carb and intake off and feel through the ports to see how much play is in the piston skirt.

Why do you mention the piston pin?Are you sure you got the clips in right and they havent come loose. If the pin came loose it would knock bad and ruin your cylinder.

because when i bought my new rings today at the polaris dealer the told me to check the pin for something but i didn't understand what he was sayin. but if the lock keys r outa the pin the pistol would bang while just cranking on it right? this doesn't make a sound if i take the spark plug out and crank it, which i wouldn't think the pin would be out? i tryed to wiggle the pin when i had it tore down didn't move i will do as u said take carb/intake off and try to wiggle the bottom end of the piston. seemed to backfire alot to(guessing i need to set my carb) i lubed everything up befor i started putin it back together so i know its not dry of oil! could this just be cuz everything new and needs to be broke in gently? i havn't run it enough yet to really understand what it is doin. just seems odd let me know what u think

When you take the carb off take it apart and clean it good.Be sure the boots are in good shape no cracks and the clamps seal off good.Adjust the choke and air to the specs in your manual and ride it easy and dont hold it in on rpm range too long at a time for the first tank or two of gas and then let her have it.

yea i will need a new boot that connects the carb to the cylinder, its kinda crack i know when i took it off the last time. the carb on this quad is like junk! i've been wantin to do a rebuild on it but how hard is a rebuild kit for a carb like that, i'm seen a rebuild kit for a 650 holly double pumper ( hehe lots o parts) i will check these things out and get back to ya
