Correct me if I'm wrong, but your 02 has the braided brakelines? If it does, that's the latest and greatest braking system for that machine. Are you totally losing your rear brakes, or is it just from the foot operated system only? The system is meant to have the most effective braking using the single hand operated lever. You can purchase split brake systems, or make up your own. Also, never, and I repeat never just rely on your brakes when transporting an ATV. Walmart sells some pretty good quality, and inexpensive, ratcheting tie-downs.

I am dealing with the same problem. I have posted a few times about it on here.
braided lines on my '02
I have given up on this problem for now simply due to priorities.
The best I can tell, the seal seperating the AWD braking system (hand lever), and the auxilary brake (foot lever) is experiencing blow-by.
You can feel it if the brakes are used together. And to stop effectively in a hurry, I need to use both the hand and foot brakes to get enough pressure to the cylinder.
