Default All Terrain Pickup.....rode it, liked it.

Well Polaris sure can keep a secret eh? Besides a new grill for the Sportsman the "Big News" at the show was the new "ATP" or "All-Terrain Pickup". With a 6" longer wheelbase, built in cargo box/racks and a payload capacity of 500+ lbs as well as a true rear differential with lock the ATP is certainly the best work/camp or grounds keeping/estate ATV ever.

Of particular interest is the new differential. It allows for a very tight turning radius, despite the longer wheelbase. Grass is not torn up if you are actually doing any mowing or lawn duties with your ATV.
We have a lawn sweeper which we frequently pull with an ATV because it is so much faster than our lawn tractor. Going around any kind of corner with a regular ATV will churn up the grass, any more traffic and it starts to build a berm. So this new ATP has a new niche. For hauling heavy loads, camping, or turf work, nothing else comes close.

So what's it like to ride one? Polaris had a real nice test area set up with 4 different tracks, one for the Predator, one for the Ranger, one for the Sportsmans, and one for the ATP, as well as a demonstration spot with a Rincon to demonstrate the tight turning radius.

I rode a 500 ATP loaded down with about 180 lbs of sand in the cargo box. It rode like a Polaris, handling the rough sections of the little track nearly as well as the Sportsmans. In "turf" mode, if you got on the gas coming out of a corner you could spin the inside rear wheel as the weight transferred to the outside and the differential spun the tire with less traction. So the turf mode is just that, great for yard work, slow easy going and tight turns, but not for more spirited riding.. One flip of the thumb switch and the rear differential locks giving you a regular 2wd Polaris, one more flip and the Polaris AWD system gets you anywhere any other Polaris will take you.

Versatility is the key here. ATP, Smaller than a Ranger and more fun to ride, but with some of the same attributes. Remember that the 4x4 Ranger also has a locking rear differential, making it also suitable for "turf work" and vastly improving its turning radius over the 6x6.

The 330 ATP doesn't have nearly the payload capacity of the 500 ATP. Payload being one of the ATP's strong points, and the 330 being pretty anemic anyway, I would say the 500 is the only way to go. I would rather they had put the respectable 425 in the smaller ATP and called it a 400 like they did with the Sportsman.

For Ranch work, estates, serious get out there campers, hunters, I think the 500 ATP could be the very best choice out there.
