ftwflh is right about the chain. IT isn't too bad but it can be a pain. I replaced this chain and it made my machine feel like a new quad. There is a drain on the gearcase that you can look in and see if the chain is loose. You can get at it without taking anything apart. Its under the machine. You may have to take the skidplate off but i dont remember.

Bubba, sometimes I question myself....kinda figure that's why I'm chasing my own tail most of the time. hehe.

Partsland.com, or the Polaris site will have explode parts views, as for procedures, I can't suggest it enough to get a service manual, it will save you time, money, and hair.

Something to add to Modquads suggestion about the sprocket is also if your chain looses a roller or a couple in a row it will pop pretty bad and its hard to identify the location of the pop, its also easy to look at a chain and overlook a missing roller unless your really looking for it.

Hey guys,
I am getting the same pop from the right side of the engine. Sometimes I can feel it on the floor board. Im guessing to change the sprokets and chain.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

yes,as stated before,sprocket can loose a bit then make a noise,or
it is just the chain slaping the swingarm (on take off),a loose chain will make a little clip sound by any mean.
also be sure to check your tranny brackets, they can loosen up a bit with time cauze those bike have a lot of drivetrain to check.
i'll repeat that a chain tensioner like hpd or hot seat or aaen is a must have it help maximize sprocket life and chain.

Thanks for the reply.

I just took it off and the chain has 2 broken rollers on it. Im going to order a chain and sprokets. Are JT sprokets good? I can get them on dennis kirk for $70 with a chain.

Let me know if those are good or any place else to get them.

Thanks,
Bob

Ok Guys,
I need help.

I just replaced the chain and sprokets and i still have a popping sound. Im guessing its the silent chain in the gear box.

I did trouble shoot it. Replaced the sprockets and chain, and marked the 13t front gear and the shaft to see if it moves. It doesnt.

My big question is can i do this myself? What special tools do I need? What do I replace when i get the gear box out? Do i need a special clutch puller or alignment tool?

Please help with this. This is the second week in a row i cant ride. Is this a job a dealer should do? How much are we talking to do it at a dealer or to do it my self?

Thanks,

Bob
