How many guys/girls out there have one? What do you think of it? Any problems to be aware of?
The thing is I want to get my better half a bike so she can come with me. She needs an automatic and soemthing to semi keep up with me. So this leeves me with a scrambler or a V force and I really can't/don't want to spend that much on a new bike. I saw a scarmbler for sale, used. I haven't really looked at it close, but it looks well ridden from the road but in decent shape. I can fix the cosmetic stuff easily but I don't want a money pit. I have only had one expeirance with a Polaris, a friends 500HO, and it wasn't a very good one. I do know that all ahve their quirks so....
Opinons please. Thanks in advance.

I have a 400X. I love it. I got it last July. So far I have adjusted the chain twice and that is it. So far, so good. The buddy that I ride with most of the time has a Raptor. Of course, in the long straights, he leaves me. However, it isn't as much of a difference as you would expect. In trails, I leave him behind. I am completely happy with my Scrambler. I can live with the top end difference of the faster sport bikes. I do mostly trail and mud riding. I need that 4 wheel drive quite often. One other need thing. I have figured out how to ride backward wheelies with the 4 wheel drive. Right now I can only ride about 20-40 feet, but I am working on it.

The four wheel drive is what makes it a great machine. A 2wd Scrambler would be a clumsy over weight beast just like the V Force. Not bashing, just what I have seen from comparing 2wd machines. The 400EX is a more capable 2wd.
I've had mine for more than a year. I give it no mercy and it hasn't let me down yet.

CED, March 14-16 for sure 100% all weekend! I can't wait.
400ex is OUT OF THE QUESTION! The biggest thing is I need an automatic for my wife. I think the 4x4 would be great with four paddles all the way around, but it would be so hard for her to turn.
So no real problems with them? I am already worried when my tranny is going to go and I don't need soemthing else to worry about.
Thanks for the opinons!
However, it isn't as much of a difference as you would expect

Ward,
A scrambler is a great machine!! They are very easy to ride, and have a very comfortable seat and trail suspension. They aren't as soft riding as a utility, but definately easier to steer. In fact, I presently own a 2002 Scrambler 400 4x4 with the blue plastic and yellow X graphics. It has yellow UFO handguards on it, works front struts, and absolutely 0 scratches on the plastic. I bought it in Sept., put maybe 300 miles on it, and then bought a predator. My scrammy is currently for sale. Send me a private message if you would like me to email you a pic or if you are interested. I live in Iowa.

My Scram has been VERY good to me. It is one BAD A** trail quad. The only downers for me is chain the drive when mudding. I also wish the suspension was better on mine, cuz I don't have the long travel susp. on my '98. Once in a while something stupid will go wrong, like the fan/temp sensor or a hub seal, but that is about as big as the problems ever got. I personally would get the 4x4 for sure, but that's my opinion. Unless you plan on moddifying it or making it lighter, I would definately get the 4x4.

There probably won't be any performance mods done to it, well maybe a pipe and filter. Pipe would be half cosmetic and the filter for easy cleaning.
One problem with the 400, aren't all of them two stroke? If so HECK NO. Like I said wife's bike, she'd fill it full of straight gas the first time she wanted to ride without me and there I'd be rebuilding the darn thing.
I may go try and look at the one I saw on Monday to see whats up with that one.
What's the differrance before '99?
