Are you sure that the K&N filter is the reason for the mileage drop or could it be something else that went wrong at the same time you changed filters? That is a huge drop in fuel mileage. If anything I would think that the K&N would give you better mileage. I would put the stock filter back on and check the mileage again. If fuel consumption is still worse than before, than it's not the K&N but something else. Take a look at the underside of the fuel tank and you will see two fuel hoses connected to fittings. Run your fingers around the fittings and see if you have any gas on your fingers. The fittings are known to leak. Mine did! Also, when you fill the tank with fuel, keep it around an inch or so below the neck of the fuel tank. If you fill it all the way up to the neck it will just run out the overflow tube, giving you false readings. While your at it, check for fuel leaks everywhere else that a leak could be possible.
