I' Routinely Place My Xplorer in a Hole that is to the top of my Racks On my Xplorer, by making sure the belt cover is sealed good, (use grease on the gasket) and staying on the gas Ive never Faltered. Polaris Quads are regular submarines. Many Quads have Snorkels, but few Quads have Intakes as High as the polaris Utes do, Simply because they sit up so high.

I have a Sportsman 500, and I have a question for you guys? There are 2 vents coming off of the belt housing, I assume one is intake and the other is exhaust, correct? The one I assume is the exhaust is the lower of the two???? If I keep the engine hammered, will the enclosed fan provide enough air to keep the water out of the exhaust, even though the water level is higher than opening? Or will I drown the belt out?

BAD2BONE,do NOT bring the Sportsman above the exaust PVT tube level, you are asking for trouble. If you do happen to go into water above the exaust tube, stick the quad in neutral and rev the engine for a few minutes. You will see the water expel from the exaust tube.Than drive the quad in low range for awhile,it will assist in drying out the belt.It is a good idea to purchase additional compression clips for the black cover. They are 50 cents apiece and they just clip on around your belt cover. You were correct on your assumtion of the snorkle tubes,Good luck===BILL

all you submersible machine owners just keep in mind that your differentials and your transfer case vent tubes are only as high as the top bar on the frame just below your seat.unless you have modified them.you may want to check and make sure you dont have any water in them..i sunk my machine and was lucky enough not to get any water in the air intake of the motor but did have water in my differentials and transfer case

Well, No, mine didn't make it... i went into a really swollen brook, thanks to my ffriends '99 sportsman with a winch, we got it out,.mine had only 56 miles on it. It sucked water in, hydro locked. Oil had water in it, carb had water, needless to say.. we towed it back, and i did two oil changes(drained the oil cooler also)
drained the belt cover, The machine runs as good as ever. I love it here in Maine, The sportsman will go through alot of snow, unless you live north of central Maine you need to trailer a sled north to ride more than three weeks out of the year! we have alot of old logging trails and roads that the paper companies allow riding on FREE!
They will drown guys, and always send the one without the winch first! if we didnt, we'd be 20 miles with the only winch under water. Enjoy
