Default Scrambler 500 compared to Scrambler 500 HO

hey guys, I was wondering how much difference the Scrambler 500 to the Scrambler 500 HO is.. like accelleration wise, and top end wise. My friend has a non HO and i was wondering if we did the same mods.. what would the turn out be when we drag?

I know the difference between the HO and NON-HO is 20% less power in the latter.

What year is his scram? I know that all of the scrams with the concentric drive were HO, even though they dont say it. I belive they put the HO motor in sxtarting in 98. Actually, you cant even get a pipe for a non HO scram. So I would say that you would be able to smoke him

for what its worth, i have watched a pre h.o. sportsman 500 outrun a 500 h.o. w/ only a front facing snorkle.

Its probable is a HO then. If you go to the HPD or Hot Seat websites, and look at the pipes that they have, you will notice that they are for 98-02 scrams. ALL of these are HO motors otherwise you would need a different pipe. If I am not mistaken, the only non HO 500 scram was the 97 which had front and rear chain drive. Hope this helps

Actually, the very first Scrambler 500s were NOT the HO. After finding out they couldn't keep up with the 400s, they came out with the HO the very next model year. As to which year that was, I am not sure.
