Default 1996 Magnum 425

I have a 96 Magnum 425 4x4 and i relized today the spedo was not working. i was only trail riding and last month i just got it replaced. help me.

I would check the speed sensor located on the right front brake disk.Sometimes mud @rocks will cause the sensor not read properly.Then i would check the speedo itself and all connections.

I think the 1996 models had a cable driving the speedo. My first guess would be that the cable is broken. Pop apart the handlebar pod. You should, with a little effort, be able to unscrew the cable going into the back of the speedo. Get it where you can see the end of the cable. Now drive slowly. If it doesn't turn, try pulling the center part of the cable out. My guess is it will be frayed/broken. If it looks good, it is probaby the drive gear.

There is a small drive key under the angle drive on the transmission that is the culprit most often.
But first the cable can be pulled out of the sheath easily and checked. make sure its lubed with a light oil
and not kinked anywhere.

i will try driving it to see if the cable turns but i just got it replaced. the cable should not break that easly[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-mad.gif[/img]. thanks
