Blew up 4th gear on the Predator...
#1
My buddy blew up 4th gear on his Predator this weekend. Wont even shift into 4th,5th or anthing. Almost sounds like he broke the engagement dogs off the gear. I was wondering if anyone has had ayproblems with the tranny, other than the known "knotchy" gearbox that some have stated. This is really the first problem we've had, other that a broken right brake line (the flare on the end of the line broke off in the juction box). Probably has 20hrs on it. Good thing for that WARRANTY!!! This just paid for it.....

Tranny problems are always a bummer....just ask the Raptor owners!!!! ( Nothing personal :-) )
I was wondering if you bought the extended warranty and how much it was. I bought one on mine for a total of 5 years at $720.00
I had called around and that seemed about the norm, but of course it was cheaper for 48 or 36 months as well..... BUT.... I didn't feel good about taking a 5 year gamble without coverage on a first year production machine.... too many unknowns... and the Predator seemed like it would be VERY competitive for at least the next few years anyway..... it goes as fast as I want too... :-)
Looks like it's a good thing I bought the warranty, as I've got about 6 hours on the bike and all my ball joints were coming apart... I mean about 3/8ths to 1/2 inch play in all of them..... pretty weird.

Well, CTRaptor....considering that my friends tranny problem is the first that I'VE seen, I think it pales in comparison to what you loyal Yamaha fans enjoyed in 01'. All the manufacturers have their issues, and I doubt that this is a manufacturing error. If it was I'm sure you'd see alot more posts regarding the problem, like you saw with your 2001 Raptor, where they used you, the consumer, partially as the R&D. Hopefully just an isolated problem. Cheers...

Well stated Motoracer! By the way CT, the name is POLARIS, now, if those motor skills just can't quite adapt to the cranial functions of typing, maybe you could find a local Predator owner. That Polaris Predator could probably teach you something about your Craptor, er, I mean Raptor. Let's see, how did that name calling thing in elementary school go? Neener, neener, neener. Show a little originality.

Sad.... I can't say pooplaris but you can say Craptor.. are you like 12? First off those preds are slow, not to mention you can only put an exhaust or maybe a cam on to keep it on pump gas. As for the reliability of the tranny, the same thing happened to the raptor, one popped up, then another, and another, and so on. My 01 has yet to fail me, so what does that mean huh? You predator owners are all the same, you think you bought a fast quad because they said it was faster, and what ACTUALLY happened when you put it up against a raptor, ds650, or c-dale? Its funny how none of you people talk about wasting one of those when they are just as fast as the raptors.

Yeah, and 150cc less than the Raptor, and 160cc les than the DS. No too shabby for a company that makes heavy equipment(Fuji). I never said the Predator was this or that. I don't really care much about which is better than what. I ride a CRF450. I just posted this information for others it might pertain too(i.e. other Predator owners). I can't believe you have nothing better to do but search the other manufacturers forums on this board for information on a bike you don't even have, and post a bunch of cr@p that nobody else gives a **** about ...Enjoy

Come on Predator guys, you know the Raptor guys are just waiting to jump on you for something that fails on your Preds. Look how quick they jumped on the Z's frame issues. We should all just step up with another wad of cash and buy a Raptor, and then dump about a grand more into it and then you too can outrun something with way less cc's!! Enjoy your rides.........
