Default Help, rear brakes

i have a 95 xplorer that has the manual and hydraulic rear brake caliper. It will only lock up if used manually. i have split my brakes and with it only on fluid it will not lock up. The 4X4 system is removed so, does anyone know of a different caliper that would fit on the trans output shaft that is hydraulic so i could connect it to the left brake lever/ master cylinder? the more input the better, thanks.

That is the one with the brake disk in front of the swingarm, right?

I don't know of anyone who makes a caliper that will fit there, except Polaris. Maybe you could take it out, and see if it can be rebuilt. The rebuild kits aren't that expensive, unless it is beyond hope, and needs replacement.

BTW, have you tried bleeding it? Not that there is any air in there, but to be sure you are getting pressure to the caliper? A kinked or pinched brake line could be your problem. By loosening the bleeder valve, and verifying brake fluid is getting there, you could eliminate that possibility.

Default Help, rear brakes

The caliper was rebuilt about a year ago, the caliper is in good shape but this type i can not get enough pressure to lock it up hydraulicly. It will lock up manually- foot pedal. I have bleed the system repeatablily with no improvement it will grab but not lock up.
thanks

p.s. this is about the same as a 4x4 scrambler - late model- brake system?

Don't know what to say. About all that pops to mind would be to go with a split brake kit, that way full pressure from the hand lever could go to the rear, and you would use a seperate lever to apply the front brake with your right hand.
