Default Trail Blazer 400 or Predator

I am looking to add another quad to the stable and am looking at getting either a Predator or a Trail Blzer 400. I am planning on going to the local dealer this week and taking both for test rides but wanted to get some opionins and ideas here first. I don't plan on doing a lot of jumping or wheelie's. I am really looking for something that I can comfortably ride on trails and have some fun with. Plus I was wondering if anyone knows which one will go through more stuff. I know since they are 2-wheel drive that they won't go through the stuff my SP 700 will but I still would like to go through some stuff without worry about getting stuck. I do know that the Trail Blazer has around an inch more of ground clearance but it is heavier than the Predator. I am also considering a Scrambler 500 but I am leaning towards getting something 2-wheel drive.

If you are not planning on riding alot of wheelies or jumping that much it will come down to your preference. Do you want a machine with a five speed tranny or an auto tranny? And will you miss reverse being that the predator lacks reverse? Basically it comes down to what you need and want. You want a great all around ride you are probably better with the trailblazer 400. But if you want a machine that everyone will want and wish they could keep up with, get the pred! But i wouldn't know being that i havn't got the chance to ride a pred. Good luck with your decision.

2 stroke or 4 stroke? Automatic or five speed manual?

ScRaMbLeRiZed had some good points. You can get the Predator and have a sport quad everyone will want to keep up with, or you can get a Trailblazer for $1000 cheaper and put $1000 worth of mods on it and have a trail quad that everyone will want to keep up with. Just an idea.

If I were in your situation, I personally would get the Predator. You already have a 700. Why not have the best of both worlds?

As the owner of a Sport 400, I'd say unless you're a hardcore speed rider, to get the Trailblazer. As others have mentioned, it's automatic, has reverse and is easy to mod. I like the low maintenance of the two stroke. No oil and filter changes, no valve adjustments, easy to rebuild if it gets to that (mine hasn't, and neither has my all original '93 250 Trail Boss). BTW, my stock Sport 400 still wheelies.

Well as everyone can see in my signature I went with the Trailblazer 400. There were a couple of factors in my choice. One was the ease of riding. I have a 3 1/2 year old son that loves to ride with me and it would have been to hard on the Predator. I loved the sound of the 2 stroke motor. It has enough power stock with lots of potential for mods on the motor.I also needed a trailer to carry the quads so for the price of the Predator I got the Trailblazer and a trailer. I went to the bank and dealer today and brought it home. I took it out riding and it is a blast. I am very pleased with this quad and will be for a very long time. Already looking to remove the floor boards and install nerf bars. Anyone have any recommendations as to what mods to do first. Also looking at getting a pipe and also installing a bigger carb.

Get the pred...like 95sport400 said...no matter how u look at it, if u want to be kept up with it will come out to around the same price. Although you really cant bank on its durability yet, definately is the machine of the future and the "new" way out.

Yea the 2 stroke is a blast to ride. Modding it is the fun part Minor mods = big gains with the 400

Me too! I'm looking at a Trail Blazer 400. Love the idea of the reverse and the auto so my wife can drive. Otherwise I would have LOOKED at the Predator and Raptor. This atv is for a pit bike at the drags and playing at my parents farm at the lake. Probably want to make it faster later.
