I read of a guy losing his brand new Honda on the way home from the dealer, straps broke and it fell off the trailer. Since then I triple strap each time we travel. Good luck working with your insurance.

tblazerdad,

Two words: Enclosed Trailers.

Seriously, make sure that you compress the suspension when hauling your quads. I've seeen them jump even ratchet tie down straps before.

I lost my Sportsman 500 deer season last year in West Virginia.Got almost to deer camp and looked in rear veiw mirror and atv was gone.(had it on a trailer)My rifle with scope was in scabbard on the atv.My heart almost stopped when I realized I had lost everything.Turned truck around and went back knowing the atv would have gone over the mountain.Approx. 7 miles I found the atv setting in the road as if it had been parked there. The only damage was flat spots on the tires where it had slid approx.100 feet.Sure got ragged back at camp because i forgot to strap it down..

Just last summer my cousin was going down a backroad coming from a field that we where baling straw in and the 99' sportsman 500 was on a bumper pull trailer sideways and they got over in the ditch for a car and it rolled off the side, must have rolled completely over cause the handlebars were bent down a little, the front a-arm broke and the brake disc bent and the back rack was pushed up real far into the seat and bent. I just got it fixed last week here cause i work at a polaris dealership, that incident really hindered our riding last year cause he went without riding it for almost 6 months.

Yikes that sucks. Now has anybody notice that some people are having problems losing their 500's in the last few posts? Well anyway this goes to shows us we must be extra careful and more catious of our equipment! BTW If you loading only 1 atv and you are using a truck just put it in the back and have it double strapped(my piece of advice). Well anyway it was a good thing that people actually found there's instead of actually losing it and praise the lord that we have insurance! Lol

My friend and I were coming back for the dunes, then all the sudden his pin that keeps the bed of the tilting trailer down fell out. So the trailer tilts back at 80mph, and starts whipping back and forth on the highway, almost hitting a car in the other lane.. My truck is also whipping around and at one point I was no longer concerned about the quads, I wanted to get the truck stopped before we died! Anyway, the quads stayed on the trailer and we didnt wreck. But I learned a lesson, always use 2 straps on the front and back... I would have hated to see my quad flying down the highway, without me!

i had a friend that put his SP 500 in the back of his truck. he was going about 60 MPH when a deer ran in front of the truck. he hit the brakes and the SP 500 smashed in his back glass, did not hurt the 500 but he was really mad about the truck.
