Default Trailboss 330 Mods

I have a 2003 Trailboss 330 and I'm having a blast with it but of course I'm looking for some added power. Has anyone done any upgrades such as a pipe or clutch kit and if so what brands do you recommend and what should I expect as an increase.

Default Trailboss 330 Mods ?

I have an 03 Trail Boss too and it's in the shop now for the Mods I want. I'm having them install a White Brothers E-Series slip on pipe. White Brothers doesn't make one for it but a place called Ritter Cycle Racing, Inc., (618)-644-3211 gets them from White and Mods them to fit. It comes with instructions all for $250. They are also installing a Red spring in the clutch. This spring should give me a little more RPM's starting at about 15 MPH and keep it higher all the way up - get the spring you need for your riding. They will also install a 145 jet (uncap the air/fuel screw for adjustment while the carb. is off in case adj. is needed) and vent the air box with two 1-1/2" vents. The vents are also 1-1/2" tall and go into the back corners of the filter box lid - will check for clearance between seat bottom and vents for 1/4" to breath. They will install a K&N air filter too. Right away I felt this machine wants to breath and stock it seems to be over muffled. I did quite a bit of checking and expect to be pleased. I'm hoping for a 15% increase.

Do you here a hollow knock when you start your Boss up cold sometimes? I do, and it fades away after a couple minutes. They told me it is a normal sound.

Good Luck and enjoy.

I'm not too familiar but I did look at one just today. It's the spring in the front (clutch) just behind the metal cover with bolts around the outside and a bolt in the center. I'm having the shop do it but I do know this cover needs to be orientated in the same position when reinstlled - outer X marking has to line up with inner X marking. I'm not savvy in how to replace it or what the parts are called. The spring is about 6" long and 2" wide. It's made in Canada.

Thanks for the information. I too feel it needs to breathe because it feels at wide open throttle that it has the power it just can't let it loose. I did hear that same sound whenI first purchased it but after a whle it has gone away. keep me posted after you get it back.

Lukester, It consists of The E-series pipe, the air box vents, main jet, and primary clutch spring. Sounds like what you are getting, you should be happy with the results....Untill you want even more power..Thats when I stepped up to the Z..

Archerr, I suspected I was on the path of the Stage 1. Believe it or not I ride with a couple of friends who are on 03 Yamaha Big Bear 400's and the stock TB can almost (very close) stay with them - as choked as the TB is. I can't let the Yam's stay in front so the mod. had to happen. I'm impressed with the TB overall. The Yam's can go a little better in the snow too - I will work on this next year, research tires and such. The TB ride and handling is superior. The Yam's seem to hop, bounce and are thrown around more than me. Thanks for the reply and good riding to you on the Z.
