figured out why sportsman are slow
#1
Just got done talking to my dealer, he says the EBS slows them down about 5 mph, take that crap EBS off and go 75 with a 700 twin. He also says the non-ebs will take off faster.
This is how i figure it,
take off EBS = +5mph
Clutch kit and pipe = +5mph
so thats a 10mph gain right there so if you went 62 before on a 500h.o. then you would be going 72!!!!!!!! kick a$$, who said they needed a predator to go fast?

Dealer can say what he want to but it sould not make any more speed it will take off a little better because it starts out in a lower ratio without ebs the belt is lower in the drive clutch= smaller gear sore to speak

just 4 me, I'd WAAAAY rather have my EBS than an extra few MPH.... i love the system,. no way would i wanna circumvent it. but then again I'm an old bastard that loves hills (up & down) and lotsa mud... if i want speed I'll jump in my 69 Camaro.

EBS is only on sportsman versions because sportsman versions are designed for hill asending and desending. Like when a person is hunting in the mountains. That is why they are not put on the sport versions. You can check, but the non-ebs clutches and belt for the non-ebs sportsman 500s will probably work on the 600 and 700 sportsman. Most all of the clutches are the same other that weights and springs no matter what polaris says. Match the correct weigths and springs into a set of non-ebs clutchs and you are set to go. You will wear out a lot more break sets though.

The Primary clutch has a larger diameter center pully that basically grabs the belt when it is in the lower position .
Since the inner diameter is larger than a regular (non EBS) the belt sits higher in the clutch in the starting postition, hence it taking off slower---kind of like taking off in 3rd gear in a manual transmission.
It doesnt effect top end, just takes longer to get on the pipe!
It can be removed pretty easy, and for a 4-wheeler that doesn't have EBS, I can go thru 10 set's of brake pads for the price that it would cost to purchase one....
