Would a clutch kit help or hurt top end speed ???

I am thinking of installing a clutch kit on my Scrambler 500 but I am wondering if it will hurt its top end speed... Has anyone done this procedure and if so can you give me some feedback, thanks a lot everyone !!!!

Well, a clutch kit will not do much good for top-end unless ther mods are made to the machine, any clutch kit you get for a stock machine may improve acceleration and backshifting, but if you are looking for top speed, then other engine mods would have to come first. As you raise your power curve and useful RPM range, then you need to make more changes. For a stock machine I would recommend only a spring change to give more bottom end acceleration. The way it works is it raises your engagement RPM before the machine starts moving thus giving you more bottom end, it is almost like holding the brakes and letting the engine idle up, then letting go of the brakes to take-off. Some people hate it, some people love it. There are alot of factors within the clutch as in weights, springs, helix angles, preload, etc. But for a stock machine, in my opinion, you are pretty close to ideal settings. It all depends on what you want, except for top speed because the motor RPM must be raised with mods to make the most out of it. Alot of companies make complete clutch kits that work together for a common goal for whatever situation you are looking for.

First of all thanks a lot NC for your reply. Now antoher quick question, ok now I understand a clutch kit won't increase top end speed, but will it hurt my exsisting top end speed?

I didnt notice any change in top speed when I installed my clutch and exhaust mods. The only difference is that I get there a LOT faster and have to hold on a little tighter

No problem, no you will not lose any top speed.

I just got an HSP Speed kit for my Scrambler 500, it includes a new muffler, header, and hypershift clutch kit. I probably gained some top end speed but nothing noticeable. For top speed, the clutch kit probably won't do anything there, but it also's not going to hurt it either. The biggest difference is the acceleration. It is fast of the line! The only real complaint I have is that the exhaust is a lot louder than the stock muffler and it makes some popping sounds coming off some fast runs. I think short of digging in to the engine, us Scrambler guys and gals (500's that is!) are pretty limited on how fast we can go. Just make sure you drag race in a short course!

I don't know that the clutch kit gave me top end, but the Exhaust and filter change surely do. The clutch kit is a great investment though if you want some killer torque to lug you throught the woods. It makes starting out gently a little more difficult, but the acceleration is excellent.
