Decoding VIN help

Default Decoding VIN help

My Haynes manual says the letter in the VIN that is 8th from the end is the model year, but the book gives no decoding for the letters. For instance, 4XACC38C6V2076698. The "V" is the model year, but does "V' mean 1997? 1998? Thanks.

They use the alphebet for up to 2000. EX: Z-2000, Y-1999, X-1998 and so on. For 2001 and up they use another system, I think it involves numbers instead of letters

Thanks. I thought the "V" meant 1996 and you confirmed it. Best to be sure before I order lots of replacement parts.
