Default Predator AND Scrambler

I'm looking for someone who has a Predator and an newer (2001 or up) Scrambler 500. My wife wants a quad, but has no idea what she actually wants. I have a 95 Scrambler, and wanna get rid of that pos and get a newer 500 Scrambler. I plow snow with it in winter, and it works great. I don't want to buy a straight 'Utility' quad, cause if I do get one the wife will ride it during the summer. Is the Scrambler 500 worth the purchase? I don't think I will be doing much for modifications to it cept maybe plastic skids and bumper. I want the 4x4 just mainly for winter with snow and maybe some mud running in the summer. I have been very happy with my 400 4x4, when it's running, so I thought the 500 (newer) would be a lot of fun too. It's either that, or a Standard Predator to add to the stable. Opinions ppl?? Thanks all!

The Predator is very cool but it's uses are very limited. The Scrambler will play like a sport quad and work like a utility. I've had my 500 4x4 for over a year and it's very reliable. Sometimes it runs bad... I found it doesn't work well when it's upside down in four feet of creek water. Anyone know what could be wrong there?

LOL, I had my 400 upside down in about 2-1/2 feet of water, on top of ME!! It sure didn't run very well, but after a couple of hours of getting all the water out, it was just fine. How difficult is it to steer that quad? I don't want to sound wrong, but is it going to be all right for a woman to ride?

Just for the record my wife rides a 98 TrailBlazer that I bought new and have absolutley no problems at all with it. Now to the real deal. Man, that is one of the nicest looking quads I have seen! The Troy Lee design look outstanding! How much more than the standard grey was it? I am seriously thinking of gettin another quad for myself (keeping the Banshee of course) and pretty much narrowed it down to the Predator.

It's only $300 more than the Standard. The only difference is the black plastic and the graphics on the plastic. Oh ya, you also get cool decals in the rims, they say Predator. I don't remember if the chain guard is red on the standard models or not, but is on mine. The side panels I did myself. And of course just about every Pure Polaris add-on I can get my hands on. There are some new pics in my Photos link, check out the front rezzies!!!

Yup, already checked out your photos. Love that bike. I liked it when I first saweit in Dirt wheels months ago. I heard they hard to get one though. Hopefully next season. Any problems with your trans? Can you power shift? Heard that was a problem and maybe fixed with thinner trans oil. Anyway, nice bike.

What the hE!! are you talking bout man, I wonder if your wife reads the forums????
Bet she don't.......

Just kidding..... As from a woman that can ride I would say it would depend on
what she wants. If she wants an all around bike then go with the 500. Now if she wants a sports quad the the predator is the only way to go.
Unless you find a good deal on a 250r....

Now just for the record I have a scrambler 400 that has been Bubba ported and moded
and runs pretty darn good.

See ya
Dana

Ya, all the Troy Lee Design ones are gone/sold. There may be a dealer out there that still has one, but not sure. I haven't had any problems with mine. I'm not sure exactly what people are doing with "power shifting". I usually don't let off the throttle when I shift, but I do pull the clutch in a little bit between shifts. Not all the way, just a bump. I have shifted without using the clutch, but I was never comfortable doing that, always thought it was just bad for the tranny. I'm not sure what other Predator owners are using, I use the new Polaris PS-4 (Pure Synthetic 4-Stroke) and haven't had any problems.

Hmm, so I guess the power shifting problem is unique. I power shift my shee, using the clutch and pegging the throttle. Thats good news in your case. Gotta hunt for one next season. Havent had a chance to race one yet but heard they really rip. Thanx for the info and good luck!

Sorry DANA, didn't mean to offend anyone! lol She hasn't really ridden that much at all. Like she couldn't just jump on a quad and take off. I was thinking about the Scrambler because of it being an automatic with the single lever braking for her to get used to a quad, and I still get to keep on plowing snow and mud running when she isn't on it!!!!! I'm just worried that the Predator might be a little much, and I don't want to get a 250 or 400 Trail Blazer, since there isn't much difference in size to those and the Scrambler. What do you think? Thanks for your opinions!
