Sp 600 Cooling Fan
#1
Went on a ride Saturday on the new 600, and it performed great, but I noticed that the cooling fan kicked on quite a bit. The temperature was around 75-80 degrees and we really weren't going that fast through rocks and mud. Is this normal? It may be normal, that's just what I'm asking. This is the first water cooled ATV that I've owned, so I really don't what to expect, as far as the cooling fan.

Did you check coolant level in the recovery tank ? also new engines tend to run on the warm side while breaking in, if no high engine coolant temperture symbol on info center came on your probably alright, be worried when fan never comes on, if ridding at slow speed in low range fan will cycle on and off alot.

I used to have a 500 and it did the same thing. Even though your going slow through rocks, your still putting alot of strain on the motor to climb the rocks. So it's normal for the quad to heat up and the fan to come on alot.

I've got 100 miles on my 03 600 and and the fan still comes on all the time, this weekend it was 60 deg. at a steady 20 mph I could still hear the fan kick in every once in a while. Makes you wonder if the radiator is too small or doesn't get enough air.

Very normal. Once the engine has reached it's operating temp, the engine coolant thermostat will open (176 degrees) and allow the collant to circulate through the rad. The fan temp switch comes on at 180 degrees which is very close to the cracking temp of the engine coolant thermostat.

Motors run hotter at slower speeds cause you aren't moving any air across the motor to cool it.
Once you get the bike up to atleast 15mph, it cools back down.
Running the fan while going slow, and going about 20mph does the same thing.
