Default stuck front hub

i have a 99 sportsman 500. the front right 4x4 hub is stuck. I konw this is an inherent problem with magnetic hubs. I did all the normal stuff to unstick it. but it looks like i'm gonna have to take the wheel off.

any tricks once get the wheel off ? any advice ?

anyone else ever hae to do this ?

thanks

Have you changed the fluid? If so, was it clean?

Basically, to get the hub apart, you remove the wheel, and brake caliper. Remove the end cap, the cotter pin, and axle nut. Everything comes apart fairly simply, and goes back together exactly like it came out. First thing to check would be the spring around the rollers, and general clenliness of the innards. Be sure the armature plate (the flat washer looking thing that rides against the magnet). Sometimes this takes a magnetic 'charge' and won't let go. If everything else seems OK, change that. It only costs like $2 or $3, so it isn't a big risk to take, if it doesn't need it. Be very careful upon re-assembly, to be sure the little tabs on the plate mate into the notches in the roller cage exactly, or you can bend the plate, and ruin it.

copy...thanks for the advice...

haven't had the opportunity to look at it yet ....and i just found the "search" function here...(i'm not the smartest person in the world) but i'll figure it out. sounds like more than myself has gone thru this.

my polaris has been nothing but good to me otherwise...

its been to colorado...been left out in the woods over night during a driving rainstorm....(we had to transport deer and the polaris had to stay) and we didn't know a storm was coming.

thanks again...quig
