2004 sportsman 600 vs. 2003 sportsman 600
#1
I ordered a 2004 600 on saturday just wondering if there are any differences. Haven't seen it yet was still in the crate. Anyone get the chrome rack extenders or brush guard? Paid 6420 out door no tax. I have the option to buy 3 year warranty for $450 after 5 months of use. Think its a good idea?

Not a bad price considering $400 of freight and setup in with the amount. I got a quote on a leftover '03 600 in Coldwater, MI at $6289 out door before tax. In my opinion the extra warranty is a waste of $$$. Save it and hope you have no more than $450 in repairs in the next 3 years! LOL

I'd buy the warranty if I were planning on keeping it that long, repair's can get expensive, kind of like not getting insurance on your car and hope you never get into an accident.........

let me tell you a short story about a warranty. while riding with a buddy of mine (he owns a 700) the engine oil dipstick somehow got knocked off & allowed all kinds of water mud & gunk into the engine. nearly locked it up, but as we speak, the dealer is rebuilding his engine. all it will cost him is a deductible. i never thought much about a warranty either, but this will save him far more than the cost of the warranty! also, the desicion to cover repairs will vary from dealer to dealer.

let me tell you something, i work at my local dealer part time mostly setting up ATVS and that $400+ setup and freight is the biggest load of crap ever, first of all it only costs the dealer $185 for the unit to be shipped and that is INCLUDDED IN THE MSRP's POLARIS RELEASES PUBLICLY (so your getting charged twice if you see it on a sales slip) and second of all to set it up all they do is tear off the plastic from the metal crate, put some gas in it, turn the fuel on and charge the battery, then start it and drive it into the showroom. At the dealership i work at we don't charge a set-up fee and certainly don't chartake advantage of our customers by tacking a shipping fee onto the unit price. Crap, we will even bring the atv to your doorstep if you only have a car.

I run from the dealers who charge delivery, set up, documentation fees.. no matter
what they call it , it's a scam... same goes for auto dealers....if u find one charging
these fees, run (don't walk) from that place and get a reputable dealer who does
not charge these bogus fees... the msrp is the actual price to make a deal from...not
after a bunch of bogus fees have been added..

As far as setting the machine up properly, it takes more than just taking the plastic off and putting gas in it. The process if done properly takes about an hour. Setup fees are NOT included in the MSRP. The guys at SPORT RIDER in Altoona, WI charge $75 to do set up. As far as document fees and such, yes most car dealers and some powersports dealers charge them. Some are outrageous and some aren't. When you guys talk about price on this website it's always "bottom dollar", or "out the door", among others. Realize that these prices are LESS than retail. So if you think you are getting screwed think again. (On this note, why do some of you pay retail or more for a Harley?) I could see if you are paying retail and then some, but you are not. If you continue to treat dealers like you do, they will stop doing business with you. Then what? They need to make an honest profit in order to stay in business. Some of you are business owners as well and should understand this. Here's the bottom line: if you paid ANYTHING less than retail you got a deal. I'm a customer just like you so don't get mad for me saying these things. And by the way, I paid retail.

expert140,
If you don't mind paying those fees, that's fine.. but there are plenty
of dealers that do not charge them... so it's best to shop around.. there's
no need to pay them unless a person really just wants to... and doesn't
have the time or inclination to shop around for the best price... nuff said.

Good price. I just paid 6200 for '03 left over + 300 in free accesories. I got the brush guard and am very glad i did. My friend didn't and just tapped a small tree and cracked his bumper. A winch is also a good idea. those machines are heavy. I didn't get the warranty just yet but am thinking I will.
