400ex rear shock on 300?

Can you put a 400Ex rear shock on a 300Ex without much modification?

If it does take some modification, then how much?

I doubt that it would bolt on because the 300ex is linkless and the 400ex has linkage rear suspension. I don't know but maybe if you had a 400ex swingarm then it might work.
