yeah nos would only be good for the drag ravcing and hill climbs... it would complelty destroy the enging if used to much. and nos is actually flamamble lets see what is it made of...um nitrogen and oxygen...if I remember right oxygen is extremly flamable later

You didn't pay attention in school, if oxygen was flammable when you lit a match the entire earth would catch fire.

Nitros Oxide has approximatly 3 times as much oxygen the air. The Nitrogen is used as a buffer and to cool down the mixture. If your used pure oxygen the resulting mixture would burn too fast and too hot.

If you lit a match in a room with 100% pure oxygen, all that would happen is that the match would burn quicker. The room would not explode.

Contrary to popular opinion, if applied within reason and used correctly N2O could be extremely reliable. I just recently took a system out of my car that I have been using for the last 4 years. The engine runs like it was new with 100,000 mile on it.

100% correct. I'm impressed, most people don't get why Nitrogen is in play and not pure O2. Glad to see some intellect on the boards.

ok, i admit i dont' know much about nos, but isn't it in liquid form when it's in the bottle? if it is in liquid form, then it's more flammable than gasoline. liquid oxygen and pressurized oxygen are extremely explosive and flammable. o, and by the way, i used to think the same thing about if oxygen was flammable how come the earth doesn't blow up. well, the reason is because the oxygen around the earth isn't pressurized or in liquid form.

it's explosive because it's pressurized it is not flammable without a fuel such as gasoline or alcohol for example. if n2o was flammable we wouldnt have to add more gasoline with it at the same time.

Thanks HA2, other than ATVs, physics is my passion and I'm a pre-med student so I get this stuff rammed down my throat.

As for pressurized oxygen, it is not explosive. People assume this because of a recent aircraft disaster that was attributed to oxygen canisters. The reason the oxygen canisters were blamed is because in the event of an aircraft fire oxygen would promote the burn.

To close and shut the door on oxygen read the safety data sheet on it.

physics support the theory of why a bottle under pressure will explode if you raise the pressure too high. when someone says explosion their doesnt have to be any flame involved. people have just adopted that flame and explosions are related through what they see with bombs, which isn't accurate.

Webster Dictionary:

Explode - to burst suddenly, noisly, and violently, as from rapid chemical change or from internal pressure.

Right, if you filled a bottle with enough pressurized water it would explode.

i think i misunderstood who your post was directed to. my post about explosion is towards why Crobike knows the n2o bottles to be explosive. sorry for the misunderstanding it was on an empty stomach.
