Don't waste any money on mods for the 300ex. Its a great quad, but if you want more power, save your pennies for a quad with a bigger motor.

Default rev limiter on 300ex

Dean, don't slam the 300ex just because it isn't a 650, it is a great little quad, handles great, and is a really good trail rider. Rippin, I have made basic mods to my son's 300ex, and he is very pleased with the results. First, if you go to 20" rear tires, you will need a 14 tooth front sprocket to stay out of the rev limit. But with the addition of an aftermarket exhuast and good air filter/ air box mods, the engine will wind out even more, and you will hit that rev limit again. I am running a cdi I got off ebay (the rev limit is in the cdi unit, right side, clamped to the frame under the front fender with two sets of plugs going to it) the cdi I bought has the rev limit removed, I don't know of anyone who makes a modified one that just has a higher limit, all seem to have the limit removed for the 300ex. It lets you make use of the extra power on the top end,you just have to be sensible and not rev the living k-rap out of it until it blows up !!! So if you are running a modded motor (pipe, filter, air box mods, etc.) you will either have to regear or use the cdi, which is a LOT cheaper than buying another quad !!!!

Default rev limiter on 300ex

I found out that whitebros has a rev kit for the 300ex. It has a 1000 higher rpm limit. You think I should get?

Default rev limiter on 300ex

It is apparent that I must go into a little more detail. I have owned a 300ex and I loved it in stock form. I wanted some more power out of it so I did the following: full pipe, cdi, K&N air filter and removed the air box lid. Yes, it had a little more power, but I was disappointed with how little. So that is why I feel it is a waste of money to buy these types of mods for a 300ex. For the amount of money verus the extra power gained, it's not worth it. I formed this opinion before I had ever rode a DS650.

Rippin, that 1000 rpm extra will definately let you use the freer flowing exhaust and filter, and still offer over -rev protection for the motor, sounds like a good thing to have.
