last weekend i introduced 2 family friends to the sport of quading, 4 days later the dad bought a DS 650 and the son got the new YFZ 450 w/o researching either one. the kid (who got the YFZ) didn't want a super powerful quad and the dad did so the dad got the DS. they know nothing about their quads and did not research ne thing. which one has more horsepower? how much horsepower do they have? and which is faster? i assume that the YFZ is better than the DS in all these areas. thanx.

 

The yfz will beat the ds in a shorter drag or up a hill most of the time(from my experiances). On a long wide open throttle race the DS would probably beat the 450 pretty bad. I think both their hp is somewhere around 40 but I think the yfz has a bit more.

someone had a video of a fast 416 vs a yfz450 and it was extremely close.

 

that's kind of a weird coincidence that u mentioned that. yesterday i got an e-mail from a guy at C&D racing and he was tellin me that he has a 416 kit, pipes, hotcams, and new gearing and he's really close to the YFZ in drags

 

yfz450 hands down!

 

the ds has more hp but the power to weight ratio is better on the yfz.
ds has better suspension
yfz is faster
ds is a torque monster
yfz has none!!!!

jus a thought, it seems to me that the YFZ has better suspension than the DS. the YFZ has the fully adjustable resivoir shocks right? I realize that the DS's 12 inches of travel is a lot, but overall, isn't the YFZ suspension better?

 

no it's not! It sounds good on paper but any one who races know's it sucks! thats its biggest down fall!
