Default Quad to beat a 400ex

My friend just got a brand new 400ex and I was planning on getting a 300ex (because of the reverse). But from the advice I got in the Honda forums (and the suzuki), there is no way a 300ex will beat a 400ex. Even if I invest $10,000 into a 300ex, the stock 400ex will probably still beat it.

My question to you guys is that I want to get a sport quad that has about the same power as the 400ex (if not, a little more) and it has reverse, but which quad do I get? The Suzuki Z400 seems like a good choice, but it's only been out for 2003 and I won't be able to find them used. Also since it's the first production model, who knows how it runs?

I know of the Yamaha Warrior, but I've driven one (my friend used to have one until he got his 400ex) and I don't like it that much. The 400ex is a lot nicer to drive. The Raptor is too big for me but I know Yamaha has some good deals going on it...

I don't really know about the other quads out there. I want your advice guys.

A quad with as much or more power than a 400ex and has reverse.
Thanks.

$10000?? what are they smoking, just get a 396 kit and possibly a pipe, should be around $1500, but im not sure about a bore kit on a 300.

The one thing that bothers me about the z400 is that it's low end isn't as good as the 400ex's. Do you know if I go down one tooth on the front sprocket, will it have more low end than the 400ex and will also have more top end?

Just get a Raptor. Its got Reverse and it will smoke a 400EX. If the Z400 or 400EX are ok in size for you, then the Raptor isn't gonna be too big.

raptor would be a good choice, suprisingly, you can find alot of them for sale for relatively low price. But if you dont want it, just find a used z, they are out there, for around 4500-5000. Great quads, can smoke a ex.

They are pretty much the same machine. I will probably find a used z400. If I want to have more low end, I'll just go down one tooth on the front sprocket.

the 400ex and the z 400 are very close there no way a z will smoke a ex the z work a little bit better but the diference between the 2 in drag is the driver
