the 450 is claimed to be faster at top speed, but the 300 has more hit and weighs a little less... acceleration- they are supposed to be equal. i bought the 300 because i like the 2-stroke 'hit'(my previous quad was a well modded '91 LT250R) and it was $800 less. also, GG is and has been a 2-stroke company for many years and knows how to build them right.
yeah the price sounds steep, in comparison to the honda & yammi, but you get more more in return.... cromoly frome, wide stance, hydraulic clutch, sweet suspension & brakes, etc. etc. etc. ...they are race ready for MX, GP, desert, or dunes. they only need a few mods for TT- lowering kits, sway bar & tires.... or narrower A-arms for XC. (which is all available)

the 300 was $7895 for '03 but due to fluctuations in the dollar/euro exchange, i think the '04 is a little more... it's listed @ $8245 in dirtwheels. however, there are some deals to be had.... contact jim or gabe at Smackover Motorsports they helped me save a few $$$$ and are great to work with... tell them Andre sent you.

i've done a few things to help mine, but when it hooks up it does very well. my first race at OPMC this fall i nailed the holeshot against a mildly modded YFZ & a c-dale with race mods. both riders were expert riders, & i'm a B/C rider... the whole rest of that fall series i'd consistently hit 3rd & 4th out of the gate with similar riders. i'm about to really start tuning my suspension to help it hook up... mine has way too much preload & i know compression & rebound need tweeking... so i know it can be faster out of the hole.
as for what i did, i removed the entire lighting system & associated flywheel weight... 11 ounces & it just unbolts. i also went to 18" MX rear tires & 19" fronts. i put in the LT racing jet kit & powervalve cover(helps bottom end) too. i will eventualy shave the head & see about getting a different pipe. motowest makes one, & LRD is considering it.

side by side on take off the 450 has a slight advamtage but higher up the gear the 2 stroke pulls away slightly, there s not a big lot in it but the 2 stroke would have it higher up, but thats what you expect anyway. the 04 450 will be a super fast bike, but not until further into the year, gas gas develops there bikes through the season and they have high hopes for the 450 so hopefully it will be a real cracker when finished. But for now i think the 300 would be the better buy.
