Go ahead and get a 400 he will like it alot better i promise 300 barley have any power and blasters are to little i started out on a ds lol

If he had a blaster then it might be time to step up from the begginer quads instead of buying another one.

actually if ur good u can do it with ur foot! haha...i got use to it with shoes and now can do it with size 11.5 rocky boots in the winter...so really its not that bad! takes me bout 10 sec..takes more time to get the thing in neutral...
