The yfz is a very fast reving quad with a high rev limit. Let's also not forget how fast a DS 650 revs. The DS hits it's rev limiter in a hurry. Every Magazine that tested it agrees with this premise. The only problem is that the rev limiter is set to low (around 7600-7900rpms) and could use a boost to around 8300rpms for maximum performance. The yfz though does rev to about 10,000 rpms, if I am not mistaken, and gets their in a hurry.

 

How can you tell what revs faster. My Raptor hits the limiter instantly. Whats the point of this thread.

z250 does but its a entry level quad

 

OMG, a z250 don't rev anywhere close to have as quick as a yamaha 450 motor... The 450 motor definatly revs the quickest and highest of anything out there, except a Cannondale but I wont go there LOL!

 

I think the Cannondales with the EFI are the fastest reving

 

What exactly do Rev Limiters do? Do I have one on my 1986 trx 250? I wonder how high that machine revs...

 

Just go back to TellicoGrizz's answer. The fastest revvers will without a doubt be the two new 450s. I also say that you ride them all before making a choice though. I got my a$$ handed to me by a YFZ450 up comp hill in Florence Ore. So I asked to try it. I did not like it. While the Raptor is not the perfect quad, it fits me best. Point is, ride-em all. You may come away with a surprise verdict.
