I want to put a 440 kit in my z but i have heard that if you blow it up with a 440 in there you are screwed and you pretty much have to get a new motor is this true?

Well you need to understand a few things.
When you go to a 440 kit, you must install a new cylinder sleve in the cylinder. If that sleve is not able to take a bore again, then yes, you would have to purchase another sleve, have it resleved and basicall start back where you were.
The stock sleve can take up to a 434 bore, but thats the last bore left inthe sleve. So, if you need a bore job, you have to either go back to a stock sleve, or a big bore sleve.
The question you need to ask the manufacturer of the big bore kit is, How many bores does this have in it over the 440?

In my opinion, I would not mess with the displacement until you have bought a Pipe,CDI, Carb, Cams, port and polish the head, new valve springs, and I would do the DRZ base gasket swap too.
Good Luck

Yes i think it would be worth it for woods racing you shouldent go any wider then +2 arms and where i race i would be rubbing up against trees if i had those with arms you have to understand with +1 you are really adding 2 inches and with +2 you are adding 4inches etc

OK....
i always thot that +1... meant 1 inch to each side too... but my buddy was callin me a moron the other day because he thot it meant 1 inch over all... and it makes sense... +1 is +1... if it was 1 to each side you would think they would call it +2... (i knew i was right!!!!!)
sorry about confusion...

, Sorry, had to giggle at the A-arm thing.....I have just finished a 463 kit on my Z400 and am still working out a few bugs.....the 22" rear tires are still just to big for normal riding (better for desert racing) so gonna get a set of 20" ITP's. In the mean time I will put the stockers back on to see how the gearing should work for overall riding. I also have +3 +1 A-Arms and 2+2 rear axle with TCS Triple-Rate Fronts and a Double Rate in the back. I still have the stock carb but am looking at least a 39 MM carb. Oh yah have a full titanium Yosh pipe too with pro design K&N. I got beat by stock Yamaha 450 with ex baffle removed by six bikes but it was also the first ride out and the bike is still fat and no idea how the gearing is working (14 front and 41 in rear). Top end though no one pulled away from me but I wasn't really catching them either.

can anyone here that has ever worked with the 440 kit in these tell me anything about them as far as relability? Im putting the 440 high compression kit, 41mm carb, headwork, cams, igniton all on right now I know im building a race motor but does this kit pop easily? am I doomed for blowing motor after motor from now on?
